Was able to fish five days this year. The first four days we fished 7 til noon. The weather was up and down, was able to net up some finger mullet. The surf was slow but managed some nice fish. Reds, trout, nice mangrove snapper 14" to 17", smacks, jacks, and a ton of skip jacks. Chunk-up some skip jack and fished the channel side for all the oversized reds. Ended up with a total of 17 oversized reds. (33" to 46")
Thursday we changed it up and took the 2 o'clock over. The surf was full of bait, birds, & fish. The wife and I managed our limits on reds, Charlotte caught all the trout this year. My wife found a pelican that had a rattle trap stuck in its mouth. Lucky there was a vet from Austin fishing next to us. He removed the lure with my wife assistants. The ladies took the 6 o'clock back. Scott and I stayed the night looking for the bull reds and shark. No luck with the reds but had 10 runs with sharks four break offs, one spooled, three drops, landed two. Scott with a 100# bull and I got a 70# sandbar. All oversized reds and sharks where CPR. Managed to bag some fish for the freezer. Not a bad trip. Here are some pic's of our trip. Until next time.... tight lines.

Fredrick. Always great pics but mostly you & the mrs look to really have some joy when your out fishing. Thanks for helping me remember.

man that's a great trip! how in the he11 do you fish for those things?!?! I remember your reports every year, then I try to duplicate your success and fail miserably lol... do you cast as far as you can and just let bait sit on bottom? Or do you cast close to the rocks and fish the rocks? I can never seem to get a red like that on the N. Jetty! any tips for me sir? I've had this dream that one day I'm going to go over there with my wife, and see you there so you can show us the ropes!  |

jsb, when fishing the channel we use a three way swivel 80# mono for bait and 14 to 20# mono for the weight. Cast out as far as you can and give line until it stops. Reel in slack and wait. When the fish hits and the weight snags the lighter line will break off so you can fight the fish. Hope this helps you out. Tight lines |

Very nice report and pics...another nice variety of fish caught and some of those bulls have been eating real good by the looks of their bellies.
