hell of a tip man, I really apprecaite that!!! I usually use a carolina style rig with the egg weight just slid on the line then a swivel and leader down to hook. This method you describe sounds way better as if you do break off you just lose a weight and not the whole setup! Thanks again man for the tip!!! Is 4 oz. weight too much? that's what i usually use |

Red eye, the Mrs. is a blessing in my life. We do enjoy the time we get to spend together. If our post helps you to remember, it's a true honor. God bless |

I remember your reports every year, then I try to duplicate your success and fail miserably lol... do you cast as far as you can and just let bait sit on bottom? Or do you cast close to the rocks and fish the rocks? I can never seem to get a red like that on the N. Jetty! any tips for me sir? I've had this dream that one day I'm going to go over there with my wife, and see you there so you can show us the ropes! |
jsb, when fishing the channel we use a three way swivel 80# mono for bait and 14 to 20# mono for the weight. Cast out as far as you can and give line until it stops. Reel in slack and wait. When the fish hits and the weight snags the lighter line will break off so you can fight the fish. Hope this helps you out. Tight lines |
GREAT TIP!!!! Very nice of you to share the info! |
DeputyDawg. The way I see it. I don't get to fish as much as I would like. So if I can help a fellow angler, it's all good! |

jsb. The weight depends on the tide. We use the Carolina rig on the surf side and behind the jetty boat landing. Surf side I usually cast within 10yds of the jetty inside the third gut. Outside of that further. Planning my B-day trip Oct 18-20. If you see us out there please stop by. |

I don't fish the N Jetty but are you saying that you cast out and get your weight stuck in the rock intentionally and sit and wait??
I bet you donate a bunch of weight huh?
Which weight works best and is cheapest!?
Thanks bud! |

No Sir not intentionally. Fishing the jetty you tend to get hung up, that's why I use this set up. The five days we fished I only lost about eight weights
my buddy lost twenty or more. He was using surf weight someome gave him, I like using the flat round sinkers 3 to 4 oz. They run 25cent a oz. The biggest mistake I see people make is checking baits to often and getting hung up. |
