Friday:
Met up with Gringo and Da Boys and hit the sand around mid morning after a fuel/ice/bait stop, we were met at the blacktop with a bit of wind but some what calm seas and bluebird skies and the ever famous, WEED.
We proceeded to head south, we ran into Capt. Billy who said we were not going to fish past the 35mm, so we drove to the 41mm to check things out and sure enough the weed was thick south, so we turned around and headed back north, stopping to fish for bait along the way until we got to our final destination around the 25mm.
After a few whiting here and there I yakked out a couple of baits and the waiting and weed work started, not long after Gringo is first up with a run on his Nuke, but this fish had ill intentions and almost Nuked the Nuke, but then decided to drop the bait. Wouldn't be long though and a fish came back and picked up the bait, this time, Gringo sticks it and lands a nice 5' 1.5" female blacktip, which was quickly tagged, photo and released to pup and fight another day.
We had a few pick-ups and drops but no other sharky for the night. We are later joined by Puretexn and Big Sherm and AJ for the night, then after a while, Kcon and Torpedo show up.
Now this is where things get a little fuzzy, it was a long weekend, so if i left anything out, please chime in and add to the joy!
Saturday morning roles around pretty darn quick, the surf is calm and the wind had died down, Big Sherm was already deploying baits as well as everyone else once everyone was up and running....the camp was alive!
Later in the day, JC and his family stopped by and hung out, did a little BSing and some fishing, then decided they wanted to head south for a bit.
We rigged and deployed, had pick ups and drops, re-rigged, deployed pic up and fish on this time, with Torpedo landing a nice fat female BT as well...
After a little fun and goofing off, another strange being shows up in camp...
Not long after we got hit with some nasty sea fog, but it didn't last too long for the day...
With a few more runs and more drops, that would be the last of the sharks for us this day, but with big/small/near/far baits deployed the prep work for the weed and the wait began.
After a while JC and family made it back to camp, along with John aka Bwanablue (sorry John if i misspelled it) and his son as well and a ton of fire wood (thanks JC), it was a blessing since we had burned up the little wood that was around, the kids roasted hot dogs over the fire and later in the night, one by one, we called it a night.
Can't forget about the scrimp boil compliments of Torpedo and the Elvis Platter...
Next morning brought big surf, strong wind and higher tide, but we had a shark on one of the rods, so Trey got the honors, after getting him suited up with a harness and belt, he finally popped his shark cherry with a very nice female BT that went 5'11"....NICE SHARK TREY!
Upon trying to release this shark, she did not make it, after several attemtps and about 30mins or longer of trying, we made the executive decision that she was dead as we watched her go belly up, the LSS crew was able to preform a sucessful C-section and released 9 pups back to the wild.
It was a long and bumpy ride off the beach, everyone was beat, it was a heck of a trip...few toothies on the sand, a first was caught and lies were told. Great fun, food, friends....it won't be long till we are all back at it again....
Until then, tight lines and bent poles!
Be on the look out for a video with some great fishing and yakking action, should be up in a couple of days... |
