It's been posted here a few to many times on what gets stolen. Looks like rods and coolers are in the hot seat. So far it looks like unattended property is growing legs.
So my question is on the prevention side. What is working for those that have NOT had anything stolen from them?
Rods- I carry them in cab of my truck at all times possible. If not someone stays with rods if loaded in back of truck or boat. To date none stolen.
At home they are on the farthest wall of garage. Garage door never stays open if I'm not in front yard watching.
Ice Chest- it's an engel and I won it in a tournament. Honestly it does no better than any other ice chest and I only like it to stand on. Other than that its not important to me. However it's been in back of truck for a year unlocked. No problem. At home when it's drying out I place it in front until I'm ready to go in and I will leave garage door cracked and lid open facing garage door. As I mentioned its not important to me but I don't want someone to think its a yeti and go for it an see my rods.
What else is working for others? _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

If I have rods on the front of my suburban someone stays in the car while at the grocery, convenience store, Roy's etc. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Sorry Bama. Just sit on the side of proactive versus reactive. Not butt hurt at all. We will cry and complain on here when stuff gets stolen. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

I think its a great topic Jesse, sounds like your doin everything right...
.
For me its simple...Nuttin ever in my truck that I would miss too terribly...nuttin...
.
They may break a window, and I may get that violated feeling but the thieves aint getting much...Lotta stories bout trucks getting hit, and within an hour 5 debits on their credit cards...I don't, nor would I encourage anybody to leave their wallets in their car...
.
Coolers taken outta back of trucks...HELLO...your displaying a Yeti decal and its in the back NOT secured...Buh bye
.
Like Tyler said, its up to us...Sad deal these days with all the thievery...But I think its up to us to not put ourselves in a position to be hurt too bad...
.
That would include 'location'...they been hittin the backside of Mustang pretty regular for a while, as I'm sure you're aware...
.
.
.
You remember this pic I took about a year ago in a parking lot?
.
........................
.
...and he'll wonder why they broke his window? Because he's a dumbass...G |

| If you do a couple of safe measures they will find an easier victim then you and you can sit around and listen to his sad theft story. |

I use security cameras. I have 6 set up, two on the front, one on each side, one on the back, and one on my fish light. If anybody or anything gets in view it records and sends me an email. I only have specific areas that trigger so I keep the emails to a minimum. I can view them all on my iPhone but the only one I really look at is the fish light. I can move that one and put it on the boat, which is where I have it right now.
These are not that expensive and they work well. They do need a computer to run and I'm using an old laptop. They also have an LED trigger light on them that you can see when you walk up. I also have a security system and keep all of my rods locked inside the house. I also put a simple switch on my garage door, when I'm gone for a few days I switch it off. |

So far I've haven't anything stolen. I don't leave anything in my truck, at all.....
Nothing in plain sight anyway. I won't even leave rods locked in my cab.
I do leave my old 5 gallon bucket in the bed though... |

People are generally good, so I just trust everyone to not steal my stuff. Even if my stuff does get stolen it is my fault for making the thief the way he is. They deserve how ever many chances it takes to help get him on track. A lone star card, free housing, free education, etc. If the new Sam Crow wasn't so oppressive there wouldn't be crime. These thieves you all hate do much are thieves because they didn't get the same opportunity you all did. It isn't their fault, it's your's. At the end if the day, it isn't fare that everyone doesn't get a YETI (for example). _________________ Fish hard. You never know when you'll make you last trip south. |

Yeh right, FIDO... I feel sorry for any thief that takes any of my stuff cuz most of it is used before I get it anyway. Can't afford to buy the 'good stuff'. I did get 2 medium sized combos stolen but it was my stupidity. Left em leaning against the 'house' so they were easily accessable (sp)for me while fishing right behind the 'house'. Well, forgot about 'em and left them out overnight...DUH. I mean, how helpful could I get??? _________________ FishLady

Like G said nothing too important or valuable left in the vehicle helps. When I get home and clean the yak and gear it's all in the back yard and then put in garage once dried. Just minimize the chances for thievery with common sense and hopefully things won't walk away. _________________ Fish On! |

| Great Topic, After a long day out on my Kayak yesterday I came home and decided I would like to go back out today. Planned on leaving the yak loaded on the truck all night so I wouldn't have to do double work, I asked my neighbor what he thought, his reply was "We live in a gated neighborhood and it would be a hassle for someone to try and steal a yak", so I go inside and shower up. Later I read the post and I figured it could be a sign so I went out and off loaded the yak. Thanks for the post, Who knows I could have woken up this morning and been Yakless!! |
