Summer break is coming to and end and today's swell info forecast was too good for me to pass up. AcousticTennis had been busy doing fishing of his own the last few weeks, but I somehow convinced him to squeeze another morning of fishing in. Not only did he wake up early to fish with me, but he even picked me up and drove us to the launch spot.

Before we got to the launch point for today's rig, we saw a bait ball with terns and pelicans doing there thing. Within 5 minutes we were in the water and chucking hardware into the frey. The water was churning up with big skipjacks and spanish macks spanking anchovies. Every cast was a hit and miss, hit and fish, or a hit-and-adios-lure. Wire leaders slowed em, but even black swivels were targeted in the madness.

Not a bad thing to see when you hit the beach

I boxed a few smacks for sushi and AT and I played for about 30 minutes or so trying to see if something else big was mixed it, but we lost a lot of hardware and moved on.

The next spot was our rig launch site. On the way out AT saw a fat cobia but it eluded us.
We arrive at the rig to find Prof salt and two others doing their thing. Prof already have a king and some others in the bag. We didn't try much for kings, but we did drop bottom on the rigs using squid rigs and buck tails. Small snapper were abundant but keepers were mixed in. Bluefish were thick in the structure of the rigs, biting off a few of my buck tails. Small almaco jacks were also mixed in, as well as hungry triggers and spades. Some sharks were also around, and snapper were bit in half.

Storm clouds hovered over land, and a few nasty rain systems blew by us to the east leaving us unscathed. At around 11:30 we had enough of small snapper and dodging clouds, so we headed back in.

Other than the rain clouds, the weather held up great and the surf conditions were cake.

Thanks again AT for taking me out. I owe ya!

Weed definitely present. The North wind has it washing back and forth breaking up. Small patches the whole way out, made trolling a little tough. Saw some surf fishermen battling with it on the way out too.

I can just imagine a prehistoric nomadic version of AcousticTennis, padding around in a dugout canou with long unkempt hair (not much a stretch lol), catching drum on some 3000 BC version of fishbites.

Next time you get into the bait ball like that, take one of the skipjacks and slip a 14/0 circle above the anal fin and softly cast him to the malee. It's fun just to lose a fish and hook like that.

Sounds like a party to me!

Someone on here was asking about the best boat for bay and offshore...I'm thinking - Kayak - after reading these reports.
