Took my two sons and cousin to the surf near san Luis Pass Saturday morning. The water was as beautiful as I have ever seen up hear. We started out trout fishing and did manage a few but not what i had hoped. There seemed to be almost too much bait in the water. Pogies and mullet were everywhere. After the sun got up we started fishing with fresh shrimp on the bottom and proceeded to fill a whole cooler and half of another. The grand total consisted of 83 fish. we had 5 trout to 20", 6 black drun to 18", one 22" smack, one pomp, 12 bull whiting, and the rest were just average size whiting. All and all a great day and the fish fry yesterday rounded out the weekend.

After reading this I wish I had had the time for a quick drive to Surfside beach. Lots of "Bull" whiting up that way and I like eating big whiting! Wink Very Happy

Geez....leave some of those black drum for my October stay. I would also not mind some larger whiting and hopefully some nice sized golden croaker.
