We'll guys and gals I had my day off to rest and sleep...

Got my tire checked on this morning and decided to enjoy the day offshore...

Left the house around 1P.M. and almost went straight on the stoplight to go to the mayan princess rigs but for some odd reason I made the last second maneuver into the turning lane....Bob hall standpipe it is...

Ran into someone coming back and word was slow..a king and lost cobia....

When i arrived to the rig small smacks were busting up but they wanted nothing to do with my jig.....

I trolled my ribbon fish around the rig and decided to paddle out of the way to a piece of trash floating in the water..

On the way my Reel goes off!

ZzzZZZz! Yeaaaaa

I pulled my first king of the day in...

No skunk for me hahaha

Prof. showed up soon after and I decided to leave the rig and follow bait balls..

The bonnies were blowing up all over but didnt want a jig...paddled around 4-5 miles just chasing birds with only 2 bonnies to hit and I lost them both...

Mean while my reel goes off 2 more times....i got one king to the kayak and lost the other at the yak ....

My buddy robert shows up and says jacks are on the shorelines so we decide to go have fun...

Halfway I change my lure and figured "Hey jacks love swimbaits" so I tied on a Big swimbait and kept paddling on...

Bonnies were blowing up the whole way but scattered...I hooked one but lost it..not my day for those suckers...

We finally get to the beach and lined up a little past the pier again when my reel starts going off...

I set the hook but its not stopping..more drag ..not stopping....more drag...not stopping...the drag that usually stops a king in its tracks is letting this thing just click away my line....

Prof. thinks its a big shark and so do I....they start to follow when glenns reel goes off...thats the last I saw of him for a while...

My buddy robert follows me as best as he can but this fish is massive and is taking me for a freaking ride....

He gives up paddling after a mile or so and says sorry....im thinking of cutting the line but decide to get it closer so it wont have that much line wrapped on it....

well 45 minutes into the fight i finally see what im fighting and i was actually speechless...

Me ..the kid who yelled out "Please dont come off the hook! Please dont come off the hook!" when i caught a big trout...speechless...

A massive tarpon came rolling out of the water...massive....how big? ill find out soon....

Another half hour goes by and its not giving me a inch ..my drag is locked full and its towing me and my kayak AND my drift sock like nothing....

finally i thumb the spool and force it up...

My go pro is dead by this point from filming all afternoon...and my camera is the same since my charger for it stayed in austin..

The sun is going down and i have no service and barely any battery to tell anybody what is going on...i knew i had to end it soon....by this point in a few yards away from the stand pipe.....

for those of you following i hooked into it on the beach...and after a biig curve im now at the standpipe...

I get the beast to the kayak and he is more than half of my kayak...a 14' kayak....

I just landed a 7+foot Texas Tarpon and all my gear is dead....

I saw a boater at the rig and decided to paddle it over to them for a picture....

when i got close to the rig he saw his chance and bolted....

made its way through the legs and i ended up trapped under the ladder and leg of it ...i cut my line so it wouldnt get wrapped up in it....

I didnt get my hero shot but i have one hell of a memory with this fish.

Let me tell you there is no way you can lock down a drag and pull a tarpon in quickly when its that big...NO WAY! ...Your in for one hell of a fight...

HUGE THANK YOU to Rodney and Michelle (the boaters) for giving me a ride back to the beach! My buddies were already going to call coast guard on me

When your kayak rolled off the assembly line along with many others, little did anyone know that one was destined for greatness. What an exceptional catch and story to tell. Thanks for sharing.

We were pretty close to making the call. That was the most powerful sleigh ride I have ever seen, and I've had some good ones! When I couldn't keep up and lost sight of you in the distance, I headed for shore. you were visible from atop my truck, but only for a while. We were a little worried but then you rolled up in that boat and crawled back into the kayak to come in through the surf just before dark. What an epic afternoon! I was lucky to witness that.

I do not need a picture to see your catch. Through your words, I can see that massive fish running for it's life. One last little burst of energy, was not enough for it to escape, except for your mercy. I can see the headlines on CNN now, "Massive Tarpon was no match for coastal angler. The Coast Guard was called in just before dark to search for a lone kayak fisherman last seen headed east being pulled by a monster "Silver King." He was found the next morning drinking coffee and eating a small breakfast at the local cabana. Someone ought to write a book and make a movie about this catch. I think they already have, "The Old Man and the Sea." Just change the word "Old to Young" and there you are. Very Happy

Awesome as usual. I've had them that big pull a boat around in Florida, can only imagine the intensity of doing it in a yak. Very cool.

Thanks for sharing your epic adventure. Sounds like a modern day, kayak version of Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. Glad that you made it back OK.
