News broke Friday of a fish invasion at the MP rigs, so about 20 volunteers assembled on the beach Saturday with a plan to rescue the rigs from the hoardes of fish. We knew the dangers, but we were willing to make the sacrifice to save our beloved rigs. I was proud to paddle with such commited fighters. With tunes like Flight of the Valkaries playing in my head, we headed out in waves. The fish must have heard the same music, and many cowardly fish cleared out before our arrival but we did put a hurt on the stragglers!

The water is very clear out there and it took me a while to figure out the right combination but once I did, it was on! I had a double on Kings. Drags were screaming and fish were swimming in every direction, but despite their impressive efforts they ended up sharing the same refridgerated condo on the front of my kayak. I decided that the rigs to the north of MP might be holding some more resistance fighters so I struck out to free that rig of any opressors I could find. I tied on and caught a big blue runner, and out he went as bait. Within 10 minutes the reel was screaming. That king went 51.5" and provided the sought-after BONUS points for KayakWars... but by the time the action was done, I had drifted on the current another mile and a half North. After a very long paddle against waves and tide, I got back to the MP rigs and headed in with a few other freedom fighters.

Back on the beach we swapped stories and compared wounds and watched as waves of kayaks followed us onto the sand. It was a good day, and the rigs are safe for now. Tomorrow they may be invaded again, so I will be vigilant and ready. If needed I can assemble a small strike team (or go solo) to strike at the invaders again Monday or Tuesday.

I can hear the chant in my head, "The defenders are coming, The defenders are coming" as I imagine myself paddling off the beach, headed east, amongst a fleet of plastic battling distroyers. Your videos are "TOP Notch" and pure pleasure to watch. I love your comment, "Class Dismissed." Very Happy

Thanks for the kind words guys. Kayaking on the open waters is great, and its even better when you get to share the experience with other like-minded people. Catching big fish at the same time is icing on the cake!

Ahhh. A budding novelist in the making. Great report with your sense of humor/innuendo/creativity you might want to consider a career on a reality tv show. Keep the pics and reports coming!

that might get me fired from Del Mar. Professors are expected to maintain that whole "dignified" air, and I'm already flirting on the edge, in their book. I just love playing in such a beautiful playground with big fish and a plastic boat. My job has some great benefits, chief among them the time available to serve my community by providing (free of cost) videos offering instruction and educational content that some may find mildly entertaining. I really am living the dream!

Thinking hard on this and having small confrontations with kayakers parked in passes I HAVE to use while motor boating I have reached the following conclusion: you sir need to stay in a kayak. From what I can tell fish would end up like buffalo with guys like you having the mobility of a power boat. old men like me need those advantages. Great read and report

I used to fish out there from a powerboat and did well, but since switching to the plastic yacht my catches have actually increased. So far this summer I've logged 107 miles offshore and I'm feeling great!

If only I had time to fry them up! We have finally arrived at that part of the year that I live for... Calm seas, hot weather and big shiny fish eating each other under my kayak. I hope to be out there after work tomorrow and again Thursday too. Fish will be eaten at some point in the near future and freedom fries will be a part of the feast, but first those rigs need protecting... duty calls! Very Happy
