Fished the back side of Mustang Island this AM. Launched in grey light, with 10 MPH SE wind. Lots of bait, super nice clean water...a trifecta of two trout (released 16 and 18"), a lizard fish and a piggy perch...all on topwaters. Wind picked up and became more work then fun, off the water at 1000. Imagine if the wind backs off, and we lose the full moon that area might get good.

Looking at the surf around Beach Access 1A at 3:30, and the water is green to the 4th bar, and sandy green inside of that with 20+ SE and chest to head high surf. Lots of birds... Same deal...if the wind backs off it might get fun! Very Happy [/img]

Those fish are hungry if the lizard fish are even hitting topwaters! Now that I think about it, in Baja off of Punta Mita we had big lizard fish that hit our floating yellowtail lures when they were just bobbing next to the boat.

Thanks for the report!

Thanks for the report. We fished the surf north of access road 2 on Monday. LIke you said, sandy green and rough, with nice water past the last bar.

Weed was being pulled off the beach during the outgoing tide, so the wade gut and first gut were weedy and unfishable, but further out you could keep a clean bait in the water. Unfortunately, everytime we put the rod in the holder there was already a double-header of hardheads on the other end. This went on for an hour and we just quit and enjoyed a beverage or two on the sand.

Monday the drive past 20 was still bad. Fished the stump at 17 and caught 3,000 hardheads and 7 whiting. No weed past the second bar but not worth staying all day. Good driving before the 17. Lots of folks out enjoying the holiday.
