I have been fishing Calaveras for about 15 years. I went out Sunday for the first time in about three months and man the lake is lower then I can ever remember (that's not saying much). It coming to the time when catfish spawn I headed to my shallow hole to find I could hardly make it back, around 2 foot of water, at least 1 foot low. Anyway, fished for an hour or so w/ no luck.
So I made a decision to move. Well the boat had other plans... it sprung a nice fuel leak somewhere on the other side of the throttle body. After 30mins of paddling I said to hell with this, tried to start the boat, it started so I hauled a$$. Well about halfway back it shut off again. This being around 2PM. So I was in about 17 foot of water and decided to give fishing one last try.
To get to the point somebody was looking out cause in one hour I caught 9 nice cats (3-7lbs) and 4 undersize in a spot I never even would ponder about fishing at under different circumstances.
Guess I found a new winter spot!
I will be down PINS second weekend for sure (vacation already in) and hope to have a nice report upon arrival back in SA. _________________ All we have is time and time is all we have to fear |
