I finally have enough money to get a fiberglass replica of a trout I caught back in 1975. I was fishing 9 mile hole the last week of June and caught a trout that measured 29 inches long and weighed a little over 6 pounds. This was after being in an ice chest for over 12 hours.( Wiser now- C.P.R.)

Question
I was wondering if anyone could give me an approximate actual weight and length based on their experience. I know fish shrink a little after being kept on ice. Thanks for any input.

1/4 inch in length at most, and the weight will be the exact same

I'm certainly no expert, but from personal experience and discussions with TP&W people your trout probably did not shrink enough to make much difference on length measurement, however, the weight probably would have been 3 to 6 oz heavier after 8 hours on ice. Trout will begin to shed weight (water) as soon as they are put on ice. I weighed in a monster that I caught about 10 years ago after being on ice for over 30 hours. You could see the wrinkles in the sows skin from loss of weight. I had been camped out at Yarborough Pass and weighed her in at Woody's when I got back to civilization. A couple of Parks & Wildlife guys came over and said the the fish probably lost a little over a pound. Official weight was 11#, 4.5 oz. and the wardens guesstimated it would have been about 12 1/2 lbs when first caught. My fishing buddy told me I might as well quit fishing because I'd never catch a bigger one. So far he has been right.

Yea, most of my extra $$$ has gone for important things like deer leases, trucks, a new boat, etc. Now before I send a kid to College I want to get a replica of the trout.

Been to Aransas Taxidermy and looked at Preston's work on fish. Fiberglass looks like the real thing and according to what I've read, it will last alot longer.

Try this website http://www.gsmfc.org/sasweb/fishsize.htm for weight for length calculations.

No problem. I respond to Zane, Zach, Zano, Z-man, or whatever as long as it begins with a Z.

Kind of a long running joke with some coworkers and myself.

I'm used to it now.
