Moose, Oz and I headed offshore way south out of Packery in my 23' boat. We did not find any birds working as we had hoped, so we headed to a rig and loaded the boat up with quality snapper to 26".

The snapper were at the surface, so we spent the day sightcasting to them with cut bait and pinfish. Lots of jack schools came by, but we were unable to catch any.

After getting our limit of snapper and releasing many more, we untied from the rig and drifted for a mile or so for sharks. As Ozzie drug his bait back to the boat, two sharpnose followed to within 15 feet of the boat. As we played with them trying to catch them, we saw a 7"+ hammer come in from the left swiping at them. He then made another pass from the right at the sharpnose. Eventually, he came up to the surface 10-15 feet from the boat. We went ballistic trying to catch him, but he was smarter than we were.

I've seen a ton of hammers offshore, but not next to boat and not feeding, so it was a pretty sweet sight. Oz and Moose can probably give a better description of it than I can.

Great trip guys!

Sounds like a good day. Did you catch the Snapper at the rigs up close or farther out?

Billy told me he wasn't going to mess with none of them snapper. He is going after anything that will bite a 25# piece of Jackfish! I do want to hitch a ride with him when he gets rigged out.

He'd better have his name in the gelcoat inside that panga otherwise the Coast Guard will constantly be buzzing him thinking he is smuggling bales of dope in from Mexico Smile

funny you should say that i just got done sending him an email requesting he do something to make it stand out that way both of our jobs would be alittle easier. If not we would be getting calls everytime he goes out to fish.
