Well ladies and gentlemen, I learned I got a job in Baton Rouge, LA. I have been living up in Kentucky for a while now and can't stand being away from the gulf. It kills me every day. Baton Rouge isn't really far from the gulf. So this leads me to a question. How much different is the LA coast than Corpus as far as fishing is concerned? I'm dying to go fishing. Fishing for bass and lake trout isn't that exciting.

Speaking from experience, the difference between 'Red Stick' and CC is night and day, but not necessarily in a bad way! Laughing

It's 3 hours to the coast, no matter which way you go, so be prepared for that. Once you get there, don't expect ANY surf, because it just ain't there. And the beaches won't be what you remembered. Brown water, flat, and no sand dunes.

But, Baton Rouge is a great city (save for the traffic on either I-10, I-12, or Jefferson Highway....or even Perkins Rd. for that matter Shocked ). Enjoy the Southdowns Mardi Gras Parade (as well as the Spanish Town Parade), and save room for the St. Patricks Day Parade also.

Learn to fish the bayous, as you don't need to make it all the way to the coast to get redfish, flounder, or trout. Keep the smile on your face down when you find out that the daily bag limit for trout is 25, and the minimum size is 12". But, don't look for many over 15-16". If you tell folks you want a 25" trout, they will look at you like you are from Mars.

Learn to enjoy a good crawfish boil, and make a point to go to Benoits for your smoked meat products (about a 15 minute trip south of the city, down Highway 1 in Addis). Trust me on Benoits. Very Happy Best andouille (and tasso) around.

Thanks for the reply. Well, if I can catch some specks and reds without having to go all the way to the coast, hell.... that's good enough for me. I won't be worried by the traffic. After living in Phoenix, Austin and driving through Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin. Nothing seems bad anymore. haha. I'm more excited about the food than anything. I hear Zachary is a good place to live. So hopefully the fish gods will bless me with a decent safe neighborhood.
