Does anyone here ever kayak to the N. Jetty in Port A? Years ago there were several people that would kayak to it and camp at the old shark shack and I was wondering if anyone still did that.. Maybe put in back in the Lydia Ann channel and cross there to go down beside the seawall and jetty to get out. Don't remember anyone doing it in the last few years and was just wondering.

We used to do it a few years back but have got really leary of some of the boats running through the channel and just take the Jetty Boat these days. Lot easier to put everything in a cart and not have to worry about it.
Still see a group come over every now and then to camp and have one or two guys bring the Kayak across

A friend or mine lost her son doing just that. They kayaked over to the north beach early one morning. 2 of them. The wind got up from the SE and when they tried to get around the jetty the waves started pushing them into the rocks. End result his buddy survived but her son did not. They found him at mile marker 10 on PINS 2 weeks later. Not worth the risk.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry to hear about your friends son, that must have been tough. What we were thinking about doing was paddling to the dock or so and pulling out there. We'd have dollies for the yaks to roll out to the jetty. I'm not real fond of the idea of trying to paddle around the end of the jetty.. I know there are a couple places where the seawall and the rocks spread out that are shallow enough to get out.. I just wanted to be able to yak out in the surf some a little ways out from the jetty. There should be a ledge out there from the currents around the jetties.. I'm making dollies for the 2 yaks that sit in the scupper holes and can be carried with us so we can pull them out and use them as needed.. Hoping someone can tell me more. I'm looking for all the input I can find.. Both sides of the coin so I can decide how to do this..
