Left my desk around 515 - got to PINS around 645 - terrible traffic on spid. But it was worth it when I got to PINS, I turned onto the sand - and there was the widest beach i had ever seen - tide of course was going out, low tide will be around 10 pm (2200) but the dunes had been trimmed back of course, thanks to katia and irma. Not a car as far as I could see - i took off, and right away saw fish action in the water, birds were hitting the water so - at the most a mile down i saw what looked like a slight opening in the surf. While I was looking , some thing ran at small mullet and they took off heading toward me, birds started diving, I got my throw net. Three throws got me about 10 fingerling, a little smaller than i wanted, these were 3-4 inches. Setup the 4/0, then the surf spinning rod, both with mullet and then the mitchell 300 with fishbites for whiting. Fish were hitting the water enough that I started to go back for some lures - but I was there for big reds and I needed bigger mullet or whiting, cut or live so I kept at it, caught the smallest jack fish I ever saw about 12 inches long ,but gave it a good fight - then missed several good bites, then caught a couple of hardheads on the mullet, needed bigger ones, and caught a meals worth of whiting. Water probably about 7 on 10 scale for clarity, had I brought my bigger lanterns, I might have been tempted to stay a bit longer. My bet is we have a great weekend coming up - I have most of the weekend on family stuff, so dont catch them all.
