I recently purchased a used boat and have been searching for a depth finder with the GPS option. I have read multiple reviews and rankings and have found Lowrance to be one of the brands most popular. At the coast I will mostly be fishing the flats and bays but will attempt the closer rigs on calmer days. I am outfitted with down riggers and will also be chasing stripper, hybrids, white bass and fresh water reds when not down at the coast. Any advise or recommendations would greatly be appreciated. My budget is about $500 or so and would be willing to wait and save up a lil more money if needed. Thank y'all in advance.

i have a lowrance elite 4dsi. ive only played with it a handful of times and only used it about 3 times. ive always been a fan of the lowrance ff and cp. last trip offshore i wasnt really able to play with it to much (mounting problem, i think) but they make good stuff. ive played with it inshore with stuff i could see through the water and it painted the picture perfectly. and now is the time to buy, i think there are rebates on almost all of the lowance.

I am open for any and all suggestions not just Lowrance. I would like the most bang for my buck and something that will last me. I have looked into the garmins has well as the Humminbirds and I am currently leaning towards a 700 series humminbird. Any advise would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

This one looks like a big step up in technology for small boat applications.

$650 sounds like a lot of money but that's cheap compared to comparable technology used in offshore boats.
