| Just wanted to pick yalls brains on how the new water park going up. I'm sure there are lots of opinions floating around out there, just curious to hear some from the fishing community. How will this affect the piers and other flocked to fishing holes? |

I don't travel 7 hours to Corpus Christi to go to poo poo (sp? ). I try to come down when the crowds are at a minimum. Sad day for Padre Island. |

If the bridge and canal extension to Lake Padre is ever completed, it will enhance the circulation and increase the current in the Padre Isles canal system. It could possibly decrease the PC current under the 361 bridge. I think there's a possibility that the salinity level of the LM could be lowered slightly by this new channel. Would be nice to hear some of the experts weigh in on this. _________________ E Pluribus Unum |

I'm no expert but I would think that along with the good points a bad point would be, giving the red tide another access channel to the Laguna Madre. Since the Packery Channel was open we have had two occations that the red tide has come into the Laguna and killed fish.
Red tide has never been in the Laguna Madre until Packery gave it access,
I'll bet the people living on the canals in Padre Isles are going to love it.
We've live on the island for 22 years, going to be to much traffic for us, we're moving to the Bluff.
The Island will never be the same.

| It's an interesting debate for sure... I feel as a Corpus transplant that we need more development on the Island and near downtown waterfront... That being said I see no vision in the city leadership. It's great to attract a major amusement developer but not at the expense of a giant tax break package. Corpus is dependent on tourism dollars when you offer such huge tax breaks it circumvents the revenue generation necessary for further growth. |

Could have been done on North beach and very few if any would have complained at all, would have been closer to the tourists as well. At the expense of many, a few will make a buck.
I'm betting it fails and leaves yet another ugly scare for us to live with.
It will on a good note, force me to fish farther north, traffic to my favorite ramp and fishing areas will be far to stressfull and rampant crime will discourage me from using NPID. Can you imagine leaving your truck and boat trailer un-attended with all the strangers they hope to attract.

I may be wrong, but I think the tax breaks are all tied to hotel taxes produced from development. We are paying for the bridge though. _________________ Aggie 81'

Now I'm sounding like a big proponent, which I'm not, but the strangers will be out of town families. Doubt there will be a lot of thieves. _________________ Aggie 81'

Have you ever been in the ghettos here in CC? Remember, people have been fishing on the beach and had their stuff stolen right out from under their noses even tho they weren't more than 30ft from their vehicles. _________________ Jacob McDonald

So out of town families don't steal, Hmm!. Not that this was what I was referring too.
JMDK get's it.
Opportunity is the mother of all thefts, you give a thief an excuse to go to the island and you can bet he'll be there.
Crowds of out of town vehicles is like candy... |

Hopefully, all the Shlitterbahn advertising will distract people from learning about PINS and the onslaught of new vehicles on that beach will decrease. Now if we can just get folks to email PINS fishing reports instead of inspiring a bunch of new folks to go down island by posting publically, we'll be set... _________________ Fish hard. I think the biggest impact on fishermen will be the traffic. Think year round spring break....at least during the summer when schools are out. This will also impact those wanting to get to Clems, Marker 37, or the new boat ramps by Clems, plus try to get to Packery Channel when traffic is backed up from Schlitterbahn to the JFK bridge. It will even affect those trying to get to Port A.
Before it even opens, I suspect the traffic will be pretty bad with all the construction Then, if they do actually build the Park Road 22 bridge, that will really create a bottle neck for anyone going to or from Bob Hall, the beach, or PINS. |
