|
|
Had a half day today and managed to give the reels a once over "just because" .. Nonetheless I came across myy manual for my Daiwa Seagate mad what do you know it says " the external parts of your reel should be cleaned of salt residue after each days fishing by spraying them lightly with a water displacing spray such as WD40 or equivalent, waiting a few minutes and then wiping them down with a soft cloth"
Well ain't WD40 a other product that does more than what I thought it did... Anyone try it? Does it affect braid?

I have a sealine 20 and I do it every time just like the manual says, been working fine for me. That's the only daiwa I have and I just do what the manual says.
My shimano reels I follow the cleaning videos on youtube. |

I have been using WD40 on my rods to clean them and also to lubricate them a bit. I also use ReelMagic.
And what I have learned as well....if that WD40 works great on the Yaks...specially anything that is rubber or plastic...it helps repel the water and keeps it shiney. And I can attest...it works...!
Now I will spray my Pier wagon parts...and my tackle box as well...just a spray and rub down.... _________________ (( Living the life I was born to live.....

Check the MSDS specs on both. WD40 has more lubricating oils and a surfactant. Rem Oil is pretty darn plain Jane in comparison. Then again, why let the facts get in the way of a good story....... _________________ Dave

Bought a new sealine 50. Was reading through the owners book (something I rarely do) and it specifically recommended using wd-40 for cleaning. _________________ I like fishies |

Yep.
Seagate Manual said the same thing ... I read it and said HUH!?!??
But I guess I'll just go with it. |

| WD-40'is good stuff. Got this tip, years ago, and occasionally still use it, spray your lure with WD-40, it's a fish attractant. BELIEVE IT or NOT! |

Yep...I heard the same thing about the spraying it on your bait...especially shrimp....not alot...just a little so that it looks like it's sending out an oily scent or something....hey...whatever works right?
I even heard once to spit on the bait...that was a long time ago tho... _________________ (( Living the life I was born to live.....

Corrosion X is good stuff. Use it on anything from motors, to reels, etc. _________________ JJ |

Anything you use to keep the salt and corrosion from attacking your equipment is always better than doing nothing at all. If you hose down your reels just use a light spray so you don't force water into the bearings. I use a generous amount of wd-40 or whatever I have on the shelf let em drip and the wipe them down.
