Mary finally got back from her Caribbean cruise and we spent the day together SBH. After hemming and hawing about whether to go or not, we finallywent out about 10AM when winds subsided somewhat.

Put out 3 rods. 2 with shrimp/fishbites and one with cut whiting. 2 of the rods were active most of the day. Caught a bunch of whiting and 2 pomps.

While fishing this guy comes in for a visit.

While baiting one rod, the one with cut whiting starts to twitch. Then nothing. I look at my line and it is moving parallel to the beach. Grab it and reel in the slack and I call to Mary that I have something big on it. I was hoping that it wasn't a big ray.

I start making progress on getting it in when it decides it wanted to go out further. I was fishing the shore side of the 2nd bar and it pulled drag and went over the bar into the next gut. I finally get it to the 1st bar and I see its tail come out of the water. I tell Mary its a big red. At that time it begins to strip line again almost reaching the 2nd bar. It then starts going toward my other pole. I had to go over, then under, and then over that line again before I can finally get it to the beach.

Here are some pics of the 45" behemoth I was able to land. BTW it was caught on a rod that Rabbit gave me before he left for Minn. What a memory.

Here I am trying to weigh it. My scale went to 30# and it wasn't even close. I have no idea of the weight.

A successful release.

The front then came in, as did the hard heads. Got this strange double.

Kept the pomps and a whiting for dinner. Three of the whiting went into the freezer for future trips and the rest went to Kokopelli for dinner.

What a great report - what a hog of a red fish. I can't imagine how many years that monster has been hanging around. I imagine Paul would be very proud.

That was an exciting report to read. Seems that whenever you can get the spouse to go with you special things happen. Thanks for another great report.

Monster red! Great catch.

I've seen your guy out there before on his contraption... never thought about it before, but I think if I were him I'd be wearing a life jacket or something... Smile
