Trying to find a deer rifle that isnt gonna cost me an arm and a leg. Would really like a .270 or .308, but would consider anything. I could throw in a new Sony 4/3/2ch 600w amp plus cash if you want...ive never even hooked it up. _________________ A woman once told her husband to tie her up and he could do anything he wanted, so he tied her up and went fishing! |

| I don't have one for sale but wanted to pass this along. I would stay away from the 308. My son wanted one for Christmas and I bought it, now it is almost impossible to find any ammo in that caliber because it is often a tactical round and with our present administration I think that will continue to be a problem. Stick with the more traditional deer calibers, 270 30.06, 7mm mag or if you like the 308 ballistics get a 7mm08. My other son uses one and it really puts the deer down with pretty amazing results for a smaller caliber. Just thought I would chime in. Good luck. |

Intersting!
I have seen what I believe to be a plentiful supply of 308, in fact, I just sold about 5 boxes that I recieved in a bulk ammo purchase.
I'll have to keep an eye on the 308. It does fall in line with one of my other posts, once they start to restrict ammo, 308 would be a likely candidate.
And as far as a hunting rifle is concerned, don't bother to buy an AR, cause everyone knows that nobody hunts with those... |

| I have a 30-06 Remington with a 3x9 Redfield scope. I bow hunt so I don't use it. |

Thanks for the info. I will check them out, had not thought about dealing direct with nosler. I tried ammotogo.com and they did not even offer the 308 win. I was thinking about a smaller grained size but the 308 is a caliber I am not real familiar with. Sounds like you are pretty happy with the 165gr may give it a try. Again thanks for the info. |

| Stick with a .30-06. Ammo is generally plentiful most anywhere, and it will be enough gun for anything in North America. I'm still seeing '06 ammo in local stores even in this crazy climate. |

as far as the grain size, it's my rifle, i can't shoot anything less than 165gr with mine, it's the Remmy 700 sps tactical, bull barrel, 20"....she absolutly loves the 165gr bullet...anything lighter and she is all over the paper. _________________ Trophy whitetail and exotic hunts on some of the finest ranches Texas has to offer, www.mcoutfitterstexas.com

| Gun show this coming weekend in Robstown. You "might" find an old .30-30 or an old Military 8mm in that price range. Going to be tough though finding anything you would want in that price range. Good luck. |

you can still find some deals if you spend some time looking around...
have you checked gunbroker.com or budsguns.com, try Durys gun shop online here in SA as well. _________________ Trophy whitetail and exotic hunts on some of the finest ranches Texas has to offer, www.mcoutfitterstexas.com

I suggest you look into the Savage Axis series rifles. They are a bit over your budget, but a fine bargain.
You might also be able to pick up a single shot like the H&R Handi Rifle in the $250 range...again, not fancy but very functional. _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable? |
