Winds finally died so Mary and I hit PINS this morning.

Got to little shell about 10.

For the first 2 1/2 hours this is all I caught.

Temps were warm with winds off the dunes. About 12:30 winds shifted and came off the water. Thought bite was going to really turn on with back to back hits of whiting and pomp. Not really. Just a tease. I had 2 rods with cut bait and one with shrimp/fishbites on 2/0 circle hooks for pomp. After a few more whiting that rod bends over big time with the tip 90 degrees to the beach. Then it goes limp. When I brought it in one of my hooks was straightened and broken in 2. Assuming a big red picked up the shrimp and wanted nothing to do with the hook in its mouth and snapped it in half.

Would up with a half dozen whiting and a couple pomps. Had one pomp and one whiting for dinner and gave the rest to kokopelli. After feasting on them he seemed to be walking around with a smile on his face.

Snacking on whiting.

Looks like there should be a funny caption for this pic but I just can't come up with one.

The end!

The surf was beautiful today and the beach easy to drive.
Took my brother in-law out today. Went SBHP hooked up with two pomps almost as soon as the rods got set. Action quickly died down. Didn't get out until after noon and wife was ready to head back before three. But brother had a great time. He is from Illinois and he told me that it was 4* back home. Could not believe that he was on the beach in shorts in January. Anyway finished the day with 3 pomps, and 1 whiting. No current moving while we where out.
Love your picture, as always, Zia.

We took off late and fished at the north sticks. From 4 to 6pm, all we managed were 4 whiting. Driving was great, and traffic was light. Temp was 61 when we left, and the wind was dying down. Should be better in the morning.

Zia, how bad was the grass? The pic of all the shells on the beach was pretty nice.

I think the grass/weed has gotten to be a year around event to varying degrees. It has gotten much worse over the last 40 years that I have been coming to fish the surf. It's like the garbage on the beach. It gets worse every year.

I remember when the beach was seaweed free until, what, April I think? You could make early trips and not have to deal with it. Now it seems it's always there. Sad
