Looked up prices for hunting the King ranch. Trophy bucks are going for $20,000 and up. Is this a normal, rate or just the typical King Ranch mark up?

depends, you looking for a 200" plus deer?

most will start around $3500, that's up to about 135 inches, then it goes up from there.

http://www.king-ranch.com/pricing.html

The quality of deer hunting is like no other hunting in the King. Base price for a trophy starts at 5500$ and goes up by the inch. Once in a life time hunting opportunity on a low fence place. Here is the site and hope you all pursue hunting in STX.

The cost to shoot a deer in South Texas is getting crazy. I understand the land owners put lots of time and money into feeding and caring for the land but it has priced most of us out of the market.

An example is a few years ago i spent that same $5,700.00 and had a week long hunt in Saskatchewan which included everything. Food, lodging, airfare, ride from the airport, and a once in a lifetime adventure that you got to spend an entire week doing. I shot a 165 and my buddy shot a 173. All the deer killed were over 140 and they all cost the same. The pay by the inch thing is a turn off, but if you can afford it more power to you.

i kind of agree, but at the same time, the people that are paying the big prices are looking for that trophy...kind of like you going to Saskat for the big dudes...

if you just want to shoot A deer....there is public land and there are also decent leases with decent prices, may not be south texas, but close...but if you are looking for a "trophy" deer, which for most, it's over 140", yer either going to pay for a big lease or the trophy hunt.

I think I can go the rest of my life without shooting another deer. Especially at those prices. Thats a lot a money just for bragging rights. Very Happy
