| Decided to hit up Packery Channel this morning for an hour or two to see if I can catch some sheepshead with my long pole I bought while I was in Japan. The pole is 5 meters or about 16 1/2 feet long. Pumped out about a dozen ghost shrimp and then hit the jetty. First fish caught after about 20 minutes and was about 17 inches. From there I started catching them back to back. Unfortunately, the rest were all too small to keep. Ended up catching 10 and only keeping one in about an hour and a half. The pole worked awesome. Got the bait right next to the rocks with zero snags and when the fish hit just had to lift up on it till the fish was tired. Saw about 5 or 6 people head out there as well, but no one else was catching anything at all. |

| The "long pole method" was a staple of the Port A jetties in the winter when I was a kid. I don't see as many folks using them these days - (but then again, maybe I don't get out to the Port A jetties as much as I used to with the ease of access at Packery. Sure easier to drive 10 minutes from my house in the Bluff than drive up the Island all the way to Port A). |

CS, same goes for "doodle socking" the shoreline brush with an old cane pole, 3-5' of line and a lure on the end to catch bass that can't be had any other way. Very often, simple is still the best method!!! High tech this and that isn't always the best answer. _________________ Dave
