I am trying to figure out what type of lower unit oil to put in a little Honda 20hp outboard. The Manual calls for SAE 90 Hypoid, I ordered some, and the label reads "Hypoid 90...SAE 80W90 API GL-5". The part that I am concerned with is the 80W. Is this lube ok to use?

Thanks yall and have a merry Christmas!

It say 80w90 its heavy enough for a 20 horse either way you look at. You could probably get away with 50 weight. Why did you order it? Walmart and Academy carry lower unit oil.

It needed hypoid, and the stores here in SA didn't have it and Amazon had free shipping. I know it would work, I just was worried about warranty work, etc.

I'm a firm believer in Amsoil products. But I have found people to be very loyal to there oil brands. If you buy a good product, and change at regular intervals you should be fine.

Another Question:
What is the difference between GL-4 and GL-5 oils if the rest of the label is the same?
