I don't care what anyone says about these led lights... U Jst can't beat the setup tht I build and use. I'm using a 4" pvc coupling with an air craft carrier light wired up thru my 1 1/2" pvc pole. Light is sealed in with tar in the back where the contacts are & the front is sealed in with clear silicone. I pull a float and use a bad a** group 29 battery. I pick up flounder behind people all the time tht they literally cant see like I can!!!! I would be willing to make a few for the "serious" gigger who wants a light tht will last forever. Pm me for a price. _________________ Come out & gig some flounder with Straight to The Point Guide Service!! http://floundergiggin.com/ for more info

I've been using the old 100W sealed beam aircraft bulbs (landing lights, not 'carrier') for years and they really are top notch. I also have a couple 200W bulbs I recently picked up dirt cheap but won't likely build them due to power consumption/heat production etc.
I've always been hesitant about the LED lights, having seen several setups and none have impressed me, especially for the outrageous price. This fall I wanted to experiment to see if I could reproduce as close as possible the light of the aircraft bulbs. I did heavy research and did it balls to wall correctly and I custom built an LED 'death star' tractor-beam of my own. I am running approx 2,400 lumens (far more than any marketed LED Flounder light that I am aware of). I run off a 12V (7.2 Ah) deer feeder battery and get about 5-6 hours before I swap. Light field is in a wider 'flood' angle and unlike majority of the led lights on the market, I'm running the traditional 'warm' color temperature for the bulb instead of that pure white crap. Since building it, I haven't used the 'aircraft' setup but still may in the future... just really happy with my end product right now. I promise you year-around I don't miss many Flounder (or Sheepshead or Drum).

LOL. "FLOUNDER LIGHT WARS!!!!"
The folks that say the LED technology sucks, just dont know what they are talking about. Do some homework on CREE led's. A LED is rated for 50,000+hrs. A Wagner/GE PAR-36 size P/N 4509 Aircraft LANDING light is only factory rated for 25hrs, and I am fairly certain that is a required item to be changed during routine maintence on planes. Almost all the tailights on new vehicles are LED for a reason. Brighter, last longer, and no filiments to break with a shock/impact.
My only advise for using LEDs is DO NOT use a white colored light, use only "warm white". More of a natural incandescent bulb color. Ive spent a year on this topic and built damn near every kinda light you can imagine.
