|
|
| I have been duck hunting for ULM for several years now and have a spot south of the JFK that I frequent. The nearest house is 1600 ft per Google Earth and the spot is on a small island. There are NO Trespassing signs now posted on this spot!! I think this is an attempt by the homeowners in the area to keep the hunters away. Do any of you know what is going on here?? I know I was hounded once by homeowner in the area but that was only when I did a walk in hunt from a nearby neighborhood....won't do that again! I know there was supposed to have been a meeting between city leaders and Parks and Wildlife to figure out the distance from a house that you can hunt........as it stands now per CC police dept it is 150 feet! We are courteous enough to stay well away from neighborhoods and homes and I think 150 feet is a ridiculous rule........way to close. What do any of you know of the rules? |

maybe you can find out a little more om this:
S.B. 734, for instance, permits hunting with a shotgun on property of 10 acres or more that's more than 150 feet from a residence or occupied building on another property. It would take an unusual 10 acres to support a dove hunt in which no shotgun pellets crossed the boundary. Besides, you wouldn't want people you don't know shooting just 50 yards from your home. _________________ Common sense is not COMMON |

If the no tresspassing sign is from the State then it is most likely a bird santuary and if you get caught on the island there will be a hefty fine.
There has been a bunch of complaints from the Padre Island home owners. Some are BS noise complaints, but there are duck hunters shooting towards the houses and peppering the people outside.
Some other complaints such as the duck hunters trashing the islands is legit. I grew up on the island and hunted the spoils out in front of the houses for many years in which I never received complaints. I was curious to what all the fuss was about and I walked the islands where I hunted this past weekend and there is tons of trash left from the hunters, shells, food, toilet paper and crap, no pun intended.
If you are hunting out there, just be respectful. Take a trash bag with you and pick up a little extra, even if it isn't your trash, it will go a long way. |

im not sure but i think the islands with the bird sanctuary signs only apply during certain times of the year. but i might be mistaken. _________________ "When times are tough,
