Can anyone fish off of the pier at NAS Corpus Christi or do you have to have permission or work on the base? How do you get to it? _________________ Where's the March Hare???.. |

Becoming a member of the Navy League also gets you the privileges of this card, as well as access to more services/venues on the base.
A bit more expensive though. 703-528-1775 or service@navyleague.org. _________________

| Good question. I often see the posts about that area but never knew how it worked. |

Good question for Navytexan if he would post up. I dropped off a plate of cookies to him this morning. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| Unless you have some sort of I.D. to get on base you can't get on. I grew up fishing the base in the mid/late 90's when my dad was station there. Now I bought one of those MWR passes that speckled.trout mentioned to get on the base and fish. |

I work at the base....but I would say that whatever the price is to join...it's worth it. It's a good size pier and there is hardly anyone fishing....and that includes weekends. Plenty of mullet too. I have seen all kinds of fish there...either swimming around or being caught.
I really enjoy it....and plan to for as long as they let me... _________________ (( Living the life I was born to live.....

| Family Navy League membership is $85 annual. Probably less than a monthly charge at a country club. With Navy League, you have acess to all facilities, which include pier, golf, bowling, fitness, etc. MWR is more limited, but it's all you need to fish. |

Fished that pier since I was a teenager, but never really caught anything off of it except for monster alligator gar. Now, wading around to the old catapaults always produced trout, but I don't know if you can do that any more.
I can get on base as a retiree, but I'm more interested in the boat ramp area. Imagine. Leaving the truck at a boat ramp and coming back to the windows still intact. |

And a very nice boat ramp and marina they have built. All the boat slips were empty on Sunday though. _________________ I like fishies |

Last I heard, from MWR staff, they were waiting for installation of overhead sprinklers for fire prevention in the boat docks before they could be used. That will probably be the only dock facility in the USA with sprinklers, as far as I know.
Has anybody on this forum ever launched a boat from the new ramp? It's very steep. The day before the ramp opened, nobody ever had tested the ramp with a civilian passenger vehicle or truck, according to the marina manager. We have a Dodge minivan with FWD only, so I'm not sure we could use the ramp. |
