So made the trip down from S.A. to find a churned up surf and 40mph northern wind (seemed like it). Didn't want to waste a 3 hr drive so decided s. Port A would give us the most shelter. Long story short, as soon as the tide started coming in, winds calmed down, water cleared up, round 12ish, the trout bite caught fire. Gave away or tossed back a two man limits worth, to 22", landed my first ever snook, and a bonus stud pompano! My buddy, second time ever fishing, landed the largest trouts, and 3 sheepies, one going keeper size. Dozens other snnaper/lady fish/whiting were caught. Live shrimp free lined on splitshot at the end of the jetty was the ticket. Pomp, snook, and some snapper caught on pomp jig. Not a bad day for what was almost a bust.
She was so pretty and put up a nice fight, had to let her go.
She's a baby, but my first snook ever.
My boy Chris is hooked!

Sweet!! Was the snook just an open water fish? Or were you at bob hall, jetties, etc? Either way, way to make the best of the conditions.

great report, way to stick it out. I've always wanted to walk down to the end of the south jetty but I always stop short. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

Crazy. I feel ya. I've fished some crazy winds before since I drive from San Marcos, but have yet to have a day like that. Congrats. |

Nice report, and good decision about your fishing spot. What a catch and smorgasbord of fish.
Thanks and Merry Christmas. |

Great way to make the best of bad conditions! I'll be down for the next day or two and may try the same location. Hope I can do as well. Thanks for giving me some hope! |
