It goes by "Hardtail, Blue runner, Cojinuda negra" to name a few, but I'm really liking "Bob" as the official name!!
Interesting story about hardtails. Wouldn't be caught dead eating one, but this fish was at one time highly prized along the Eastern seaboard and the Gulf fleet would set on them as they schooled, and underneath them were large aggregations of red drum, which at the time was considered by-catch. It wasn't until the famous "blackened" craze hit and there as a market for red drum did the attention turn from hardtails to red drum.
So, long story short, you can thank "Bob" for the demise of red drum fishing in Federal waters. |

| As a kid we ate those things all the time. On a scale of 1-10 they are around a 2. But we were poor and hungry. |

Surprisingly 12" is not too big for kingfish. I have put larger ones out live for sharks offshore (probably 16" or so and about 2 pounds) only to have them cut to pieces by kings. The largest king I have personally seen caught was also caught this way. Bycatch while shark fishing.
Kings have a bad attitude. You'd be surprised what they will eat. Especially the big ones. |

Im leaning towards Simon on this one. Bob doesn't seem like just the right name for him. _________________ I like fishies |

12" is perfect for larger kings. Ive seen guys off the piers in FL, although im sure sure of the legality of it, use 20+ inch spanish for kings. Theyll eat it without a problem!
