My buddy and I took a quick trip to NPJ to see if we could catch a bull red or two. Got there around 10:00 pm to surprisingly calm and relatively clear waters, despite the wind kicking at 15-20 mph. We threw out some shrimp to catch some perch/whiting. Caught a few perch and decided we were ready to go. There were tons of finger mullet in there by the way. I managed to flub that one by leaving the cast net at home. So we got to our usual spot on the jetties and cast out. First two perch that we went through yielded nothing but hardheads and some pretty sizeable gafftops. Last perch gets cut up and chunked out. I get a solid hit on mine but miss. No sooner than me telling my friend that I just got a hit, his reel starts singing. Fish on! Fought the fish for about 15-20 min. and finally managed to get her in.

She went 40" on the nose.

You can see his rig on the ground next to him. His smile was from ear to ear while fighting her.

It was his second bull red ever and a PB red. His first came on the SPJ with me a few weeks ago. Released her healthy and strong to fight another day. Off the water by 1.

Get out there and get you one.

Maybe not the exact type but I bet similar to these. They work great!!! I have a set on both my kayaks and jetty cart.

And, if you want the orange version, Cabelas has them for $12.99. They work great, and you sure can't beat the price. Also . . . they float!
