I was checking out a new place to fish near where the Nueces River empties into the Nueces Bay. A couple of guys fishing off the bank told me there are a lot of large flounder cought out there and they called it the "Back Bay" but another buddy of mine said the "Back Bay" was over near the Portland side closer to Indian Point. Has anyone ever fished and had success near the mouth of the Nueces River? I grew up fishing near Gautier, Ms and used to have some success at the mouth of the Pasgagoula River. I'm wondering if I should stick to my other holes or spend tomorrow morning out there doing some "Research and Development".
Any suggestions are welcomed. |

| I've been fishing the back bay/Nueces for a long time. I've never tried fishing there cause its pretty skinny and not really any structure. Plus the only movement through the river is on the tide changes, there's no water flowing down the river. Have been doing really good in the back and front of the bay using bait. Hope this helps out a little. |

| Be careful back there! Lots of oyster beds, that will wreck havoc with the bottom of a boat, and shallow water. You can often spot schools of reds running down the bank of the river. |

I never used to go unless water clarity was decent and bright sun. Those oyster beds are pretty easy to spot on a good day but will be under you and ruin your boat and lower unit in a heartbeat if you don't spot it. _________________ I like fishies |

Any suggestions are welcomed. | If you like to wade you can try to the left of the Indian Point Pier as the water gets colder. If you can catch it after a strong front, a couple days later as the wind lays and comes back out of the east or SE it can be good in the late afternoon starting a couple hundred yards north of the pier and working further to the north. Also, you can wade the backside of the Portland Causeway on the north end. I prefer an incoming tide in the afternoon, but an outgoing early in the morning can be really good also. I would fish these areas before I would try to wade or fish the bank back by the river.. Good luck it's only going to get better as it gets colder! Also anywhere west of the causeway is considered the"Back Bay". |

That would only be true if the Dam at Lake CC was no longer letting any water out. Is this the case these days? _________________ Dave
