Fished the last couple afternoons along the Shrimo Boat Channel. Spooked a lot more flounder than I caught though I did have some fried flounder this evening.

Anyway, to the point. When I got ready to leave this evening, two guys were getting ready to start gigging. There was some other folks around so my back was kinda covered. Anyhow, neither of these bozos realized that giggin was a no-no in November and that the limit was 2 in November.

They did leave though. Only one of them spoke English and his mastery of the lingo wasn't too great.

The people that watched this said later that there were a number of giggers along the channel on Sunday night as well.

Where is TPWD?

Operation Game Thief: 800-792-4263

Some people don't know the regs, could be the case here.

If I saw someone getting ready to go gigging in the Shrimpboat channel in November, I would doubt they were there to gig drum or goatheads.

Hiya!,

Unfortunately, TPWD is under funded and under staff. Also, with hunting season in effect, they have a lot on their plate. You can call them and hopefully they respond. I have seen a lot of oversized redfish and drum illegally harvested. I have called TPWD many times and often they are too late to respond. Some cases they get there fast to give tickets out. That's about all we can do. I suggest not to confront cause you never know what type a person you maybe dealing with. Some people don't have any regard for anything.

i confront people all the time who i know are breaking our fishing laws but do it in a way not to be confrontational .i simply say hey you might want to know that fish is illegal size or hey did you know its illegal to gig in nov ect.if they continue i always call game thief.ive done this numerous times and 9 out of 10 it has always worked.ive also seen some guys be total aholes and act like they're a game warden.

For being underfunded and understaffed, they sure have some nice rigs and always seem to be well staffed when I'm out on the water...

Perhaps mis-managed would br relevent!

Like any LE vehicle, TPWD vehicles see a lot of miles and abuse...plus a lot of those miles are off the beaten track. Would it be better if they had to answer an emergency call in a beater or a rowboat and then had to drive to a pay phone to run their info searches? I prefer my game wardens to be prepared to answer an emergency call with adequate equipment.

We have 1 game warden in Irion Co. It's deer season and he has over 1000 square miles to cover. He sometimes partners with a GW out of Tom Green Co. They have two GWs. And by state mandate, all GWs get 36 hours to their day instead of the 24 the rest of us get.

If they are not going to respond to the 1-800 number then why advertise it so much. Is it just a scare tactic?

They respond when possible, it's worked twice for me...watching people clear out off north packery when the warden comes by is just amazing

The answer is to respect the laws, and the people that enforce them. Don't forget to say thanks for their hard work. Most love what they do and work hard for US.

This forum seems to be so negative in general. Never would imagine "us" not wanting the Wardens to have good equipment to do their job in protecting what we all love.

Thank you to those who protect our wildlife and sorry that some who love to hunt and fish would like to see you do it without good equipment and think you can cover every call??????

I know several game wardens and would like to see them in good rigs. Not like the Dps rig with the 3 300 hp outboards though Smile
