Hello,
Off topic post about freshwater fishing lures, never been and this being the only fishing forum I subscribe to...
Anyways, lucky enough to live on the coast my entire life I've spent all my time saltwater fishing, but I agreed to a freshwater fishing trip so I need to stock up on some lures.
Can anyone name off a few tried and true or go to lures?
Thanks |

| Rattle traps, watermelon brush hogs (weedless) and black worms with red tails are some of my favorite. The rattle trap is a warmer temperature lure but the other two are great for cooler and cold water! Good luck and post some pics! |

Where you headed to?
What are you going after? Bass? Stripers? Red? Catfish? |

Oops sorry for not posting what kind of fish I was targeting. Bass is what I plan on catching.
It will be some ponds outside of Texas, It will be in December with weather similar to Corpus. |

| Blakemore roadrunners will catch just about anything that swims in a pond. Try 1/4 oz or 1/8 oz in white for clear water or chartruse and black for stained or muddy water. Very simple to use. Just cast and reel back slow. Their catch phrase is "You can't fish them wrong as long as you fish them slow." |

Spro frogs, Curly tail grubs, blue/chrome rattle traps, senko worms on a split shot...
if all else fails..worm on a hook under a cork
if there are catfish, use catfish fishbites... _________________

| X2 on the Pop-R. Also a slow rolled spinerbait in white or yellow works well in the wintertime. But your best bet is to get several colors of plastic worms and fish them slow. Depending on how deep the water you will be fishing you can fish with no weight for a natural fall for shallow water and carolina rigged for deeper water. If its cold the most important thing is to fish any bait SLOW. |

Wow thanks everyone for the quick response! Wow I have a lot of options I need to sift through.
What about tipping the jig with fish bites? Does that work ? |

I've had the most success with Texas rigged style worms. You can rig them weedless which will also help with snags in trees, brush, etc. You can use this method year around, just fish deeper as the water cools.
Hope this helps! |

Tyler took the words out of mouth, Hellbenders slow troll coves, Dont forget about flipping spinner baits with a lot of flash, under or around brush piles Also with cooler weather fish deeper of points with live minnows or shad & shinners if you can find them. Frozen crayfish worked in the bottom, hold on to your pole. If your chasing cats, use chicken liver with a treble. _________________ Been fishing Baffin/Land Cut since 1968 |

| I've always have had good luck in the winter on ponds going low and slow. I'd start off with a finesse worm on a drop shot to find fish, then fish the area real good with a bulky bait like a jig w/trailer. If that doesn't work out then switch to a fluke to see if they are maybe active chasing bait. This is all dependent on the structure your fishing though. |
