Just a few months ago I cleaned out my fishing box and ended up throwing away a bunch of Mann O Lure spoons after having used them at Bob Hall Pier. The Spanish Macs just left them all scratched and "bruised up". Days later, I was browsing through E-bay and ran into this chrome vinyl decal sticker sheet which is used to repair chrome parts in motorcycles. I ordered a small sample of the vinyl to see how it worked on old spoons. The results were astonishing. I tried the restored spoons at Bob Hall and they out performed a new spoon. It gets pricey buying new Mann O Lures at $3.00 a piece. Now I regret throwing away so many spoons before I ran into this idea. Sad

Cool, i use vinager / deluted bleach with a scothbrite pad from h e b, Its great to restore an old time favorite standbye !

How does it do sticking to the lure after saltwater? looks real good.

Tbart the vinyl comes with its own adhesive as you peel it off and really sticks to the lure. You might want to have a blow dryer close by to heat it for a bit and it sticks really good. I have to admit that after a few hits from the Spanish Macs and ladyfish it does start to peel off. As long as a few pieces of chrome are still stuck to the lure, it still gives off a lot of shine. I do have to restore them all over again when I get home, but still beats buying new ones.

I just always sprayed them with that shiny silver paint or just plain glossy white from Home Depot.

It's been awhile but my father and I use to do the same with old spoons, but we would use nail polish to paint them. Nail polish comes in very imaginable color now a days and it can be cheap. Some are super glossy and you can even find then in glow in the drak.

I wonder if you can electroplate them with bronze for golden color or nickel for a silver color then just polish. It wouldn't be the fastest or cheapest way but i think it would be fun to try.

That glitter nail polish would sure add some sparkle to any lure. How long does that nail polish stay on? Of course you are able to strip and repaint them anytime to get an infinite number of combinations.

OK so this might be a dumb question but here it goes. Has anyone every tried cutting the handle off an old silverware spoon, drill some holes, attach a hook and try it?

not a stupid question. I've seen a picture of an actual spoon lure on here at least once before. There are some people who use both the handles and round ends of old silver where to make lures.

I would do it for smacks (and blues back on the east coast), but its tough to get the weight you get from a mirrolure/diamond jig/cordell spoon.
