Went back to San Angelo to spend the week with my son to continue our bow hunting. Got up on tuesday and fixed a few plumbing problems at the kids rent house and got ready for early start on Wednesday morning. My Father -in-law was with us as well. Had high expectations since the first weekend we saw several deer and saw some nice bucks on trail cams. Heard turkey in distance but saw nothing. Father-in law saw 2 turkey. That evening saw a fox but no deer. Son saw a few does with fawns but no shot. Father-in-law saw nothing.
Thursday morning saw a few turkey too far. Son saw 1 doe and some turkey and Father-in-law nothing. Thursday my son had a late class so i sat in his tripod since he has seen deer every evening. Cold front finally started to cool things down a bit so excited about chill in the air but I didn't see anything. Checked trail cam next morning and had 2 deer at my stand right before shooting light ended. Shouldn't have moved.
Friday morningwas cold and windy. Son drew on a doe but something spooked its fawn and both ran off. Father-in-law and I again saw nothing. Father-in-law had to head home. Friday evening saw a few deer but never close enough. Right after sunset my son had a doe come out and was finally able to get a shot at 30 yds. Deer started to turn away right as arrow hit and it enter her side and hit her spine and dropped her in her tracks. My son's first bow kill. Yaaaayyyy!
Not very big. Definitely had ground shrinkage but it was still great. I was so proud and happy for him.
Saw a deer saturday morining but to far again. Nothing for my son. We decided to switch stands in the afternoon and he saw nothing and I saw 6 doe and fawns but nothing within range. Have to head back home Sunday so I didn't get my first bow kill yet but my son did so that makes for a great week. Probably try to come back next weekend. Starting to see a few early signs of rut with the cooler weather so maybe we can see a buck. Seen several on trail cam but none during the day. I tell you something. Bow hunting is equally frustrating and exciting at the same time. Definitely a lot of work but definitely addicted for life. _________________ Eat, Sleep, Fish, Repeat |
