looking to buy a new setup......i want a spinning reel i can use for larger fish (jacks, kings, cobia, tuna, etc.) i want to fish topwaters BTB for jacks and kings more than anything. any ideas on reels and rods that would fit?

many people swear by the penn battle for that kind of stuff and even sharks from the beach. i dont have any experience with it tho. they might be worth looking into...good luck

If you are thinking BTB, you don't want to go very expensive because there is a good chance you will lose it or at least get it soaked in saltwater and sand. You just need something durable.

For the price its very tough to beat a Penn 5500 or 6500 spinning reel. They are durable, won't break your budget, cast well and hold a lot of line. One step up from the Penn would be a Fin-nor OFS 5500 - a bullet proof reel but a little more expensive.

For a rod, I have a few of these Tsunami jigging rods below and they were great for trolling and casting big lures BTB for jacks and kings. Also stiff enough to drop bottom and buck tail some snapper. They also won't break your budget. SHould be able to get the whole combo for less than $200.
