The National Park Service is continuing an ongoing project with the Federal Highway Administration to repair road damage in the northern end of the National Seashore. For a variety of reasons, the Federal Highway Administration has decided that it will now be necessary to close the Bird Island Basin boat ramp from no later than 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday in order to resurface and restripe the boat ramp vehicle parking lot. The closure is being scheduled for the week days in order to not interfere with the heavier volume of weekend traffic. Please note that if all goes well, the ramp may open to use Friday morning. Ramp users may call the Malaquite Visitor Center at (361) 949-8068 for the most up to date information on the closure/re-opening.

The Padre Island National Seashore staff apologizes for the closure and hopes the improved visitor facilities will be worth the temporary inconvenience.
