|
|
Got this in an email from an attendee at Monday afternnon's surfrider meeting. Skip Noe presented this information.
Schexy will get a 1600 foot wall built from the packery jetty to the existing seawall. We will be paying for his guest to have a $1.66 million seawall. The kicker - it will be paid for by the TIF! Will come out of the parks budget, as there is no where else for it to come from. Now isn't that a kick in the a$$.
Considering the enitre budget for parks and recreaction facilities is only $2 million, it does not leave alot for any amenities for the public.
The promised boardwalk is also now reduced to a mere sidewalk.
At least when that is made public, it will have a few more people crying "foul" from improper use of taxdollars.
The thing that ticks me off, is alot more people know alot more than they claim too. We are getting the bait and switch treatment, and there is outright fraud occuring here. We need proff of it though. Anyone with any information that can help, please PM me, Tyler or Johnny French.
Tyler said it best: "I guess a turd is best eaten in small bites." _________________ GOBZA!!!

Wanted to add this, doing a little websearching about the development of Padre. here is an article that shows that developers (world class) don't think closing traffic is necessary to build, and they already have plans to do so, without asking for closures.
The Caller Times, December 17, 2005
With coastal real estate prices sky high in the Sunshine State, a Miami investment firm has looked to Mustang
Island as the place to build twin luxury developments.
Villanueva Investments hopes to break ground in the next four months on Porto Villageo, a high-end community
development that will include 55 luxury single-family homes.
Not far behind it should be Casa Villageo, a 34-acre resort with 34 single-family homes and more than a dozen
town homes (the exact number has not been determined). That community is planned for the land just south of
Port Royal Ocean Resort & Condominium. Beachside lots for the new developments will range between
$500,000 and $1 million.
Tom Brown, operations manager for Villanueva Investments, said financing for the projects already has been
secured, and the company is waiting on the permitting and platting process to be complete.
Brown said he knew of the controversy surrounding a stretch of beach a few miles south on Padre Island, where
a developer has said an international resort development company will build a $500 million resort only if vehicles
are banned from the adjacent beaches.
But Brown said he and company owner Juan Villanueva decided not to enter the skirmish over vehicular access
because they don't think the success of their developments depends on it. He said vehicular access is more of
an issue to developers who plan hotels than for those who plan cottages and town homes.
"It seems to be a very emotional issue among Texans," he said. "It's probably best for us to stay out of that
political battle."
Corpus Christi City Manager Skip Noe said widespread development on the islands is inevitable: "I think whether
you take the cars off or not, there will be development on the island," he said. "The question is what kind of
development you're going to get."
Noe said the fact that a major development company might pass up the project based on the vehicle access
issue alone is evidence that allowing vehicular traffic on public beaches puts certain limitations on development.
"We have one of the best companies in the country saying this is what you have to have, so it obviously matters
in some cases," he said.
Brown, who is from Florida, said vehicles or not, Padre and Mustang islands are on the cusp of widespread
development.
"You can't buy beachfront any more in Florida," he said. "I think you've been 'discovered' here, as we say in the
development industry." _________________ GOBZA!!!

The problem I see is getting this information out to the public, you won't see it in the CCT or any other news outlet here. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

Dont matter, developers from out of state dont read the smaller crimes rag anyway. All they see is coastal LAND. LAND, LAND for sale...This area is the last frontier. Enjoy it while you can. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |
