I tried to pick up some lead at the tire store but they said they had a contract to sell it all. I was afraid of that. I offered to pay but no luck. Any other suggestions? I have some pyramid weights I can melt down but that just seems a waste. I don't live in Corpus so general suggestions would help most. Thanks.

Talk to some roofers and plumbers. The roof vent hats are solid lead. You could probably talk one of these guys into saving some and selling it to you. I've also seen lead for sale on Craigs List and E-bay.

Thanks MechDave. I didn't think about the roofers.

you can also check with any of the local recycle companies, they should be willing to sell it to you too.

Try the mom and pop tire stores.

Thanks to all. I will try the mom/pop tire stores and look around the fishing spots up here. I've got a bunch of old shotgun shells I could cut open and use the shot. I've intended to do that anyway. Right now I just need a couple of pounds.

Salvage/junk yards. Preferably the pick-your-own part types.
Just go in and harvest them off the old rims like mushrooms.

A tip: Head for the trucks section. Bigger tires need bigger weights to balance them. Wink

HA!

Don't forget about just behind the targets at th' shootin' range.
Gather at your own peril.

I've left plenty of lead at both Port A and Packery Jetties...snorkel and some fins and you are in the money/lead...

If you have any snorkel gear on calm days I also see a few folks going through the jetties coming up with loads of gear and plenty of cast nets......plenty of extra lead
