My boyfriend and I got there at about 9 in the morning and stayed until 4 in the afternoon. The water was kind of rough and there were a lot of surfers in the water. I counted about 30. I guess when we saw so many surfers in the water that was a sign to turn around and go back home because the only thing we caught all day was a 14 in. speck on live mullet. About three times a mystery fish bit the mullet in half but would always completely miss the side of the fish with the hook. I think a shark was doing it because my rod would never jerk down with a strong bite. It literally just felt like a nibble and I would reel it in and half my mullet was gone. Unless is was a mackerel?? It was always a straight clean bite.
We tried lures, live piggy perch and live mullet and NOTHING. I tried fishing top water and bottom water too and still nothing. Since it was overcast most of the time it was really hard to see the bait fish swimming in the water to throw the cast net at them. Didn't see any shad at all. Only the occasional school of mullet and some piggy perch.
I don't think anything was there aside from all the turtles we saw. I didn't see anyone catch anything.
We've NEVER had any luck fishing after it rains and always swear we'll never do it again but we always do. Lol, the high light of the day was the game warden stopping by to check licenses. |

| Sounds like blues were hitting your baits. They've been thick lately. |

Bluefish. They have razor sharp teeth and often take all but the head of a finger mullet when fishing with long rods. You often never notice the bite. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

How are you supposed to catch them then? Or is it just if you get lucky and they take the part with the hook? |

If fishing live bait, use wire leader and whats referred to as a stinger-hook (just google some kingfish rigs for ideas). Basically its an extra hook that either dangles of the end or hooks in the tail end of your bait fish. You can also catch blues when they are feeding wtih smacks and jacks on big silver spoons or mannolures. Black wire leaders again are a good idea. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

We caught some huge bluefish outta the surf yesterday.....and missed a bunch....just luck of the draw.....The good news is....the mullet are running thick! and so are the reds!
We didnt lose any leaders to them but lost plenty of bait without hookups

| If you are new to bluefish, be careful when unhooking - they have bonafide dentures! They don't call the small ones "choppers" for nothing! |

| Lmao.. Oh the blues.. double hook the mullet that should do the trick.. And I thought I was the only one that ever got bit by a blue. Man I thought jaws was on my thumb my wife thought it was the funniest thing. When anyone talks about fishing my wife ALWAYS brings up the time I almost got ate up by a fish well she says I acted like I was... I was out at the jetti too yesterday at the boat ramp about the same luck saw schools of reds but they weren't biting. Reds were up in the channel on live shrimp. |

Sounds like a flounder to me. A quick subtle bump and half the Mullet gone. Typical flounder. _________________ "When times are tough,

We were round the 10. The surf on sun was pretty high and that paticular spot had a good cut running parallel to the beach in the wade gut.
Went back to the same place yesterday and could only manage a 24" red...yes things change daily! _________________ SOUTHERN CUSTOMS
