For a semi cheap setup, if you're throwing lures, you can use the setup I have which is a shimano citica 200e and a all star classic rod with either 12 lb line or some heavier braid! Good luck!

I have Penn Pursuit 7 and 8000 reels paired with Hurricane Black Beauty 12 foot rods. Also a Penn Fierce 8000 with a 12 foot Ugly Stick. All have 50 # braid. Also have a Pflueger Arbor spinner for casting lures and such.

How are you fishing for them?

For casting plugs for trout, I use a 7'6" medium action spinning rod with a Shimano Stradic 3000 spooled with 30 pound braid and about a 6' 20 lb flurocarbon leader.

I throw Skitterwalks, spooks, spook jr. and plastics with it...pretty much the same as I use wading.

Lamiglas 8.5 foot spinner with bg15 loaded with 14lb fireline with 20lb flourocarbon leader.

Yes I can throw a baitcaster but get tired of tossing into a breeze with lighter lures.

For trout you can mainly use your bay gear wading and it will handle slot reds to.

For reg surf fishing & no telling what for I use Daiwa sha series baitcasters on 11ft rods (25-30lb test) and 100lb home made slide leaders.Set in rod holders.
Have fun, peak surf fishin time right around the corner!
