Still waiting for an explanation about the latest beach boondoggle, a proposed $1.66 million extension of the seawall to the jetty. Counting the $900,000 already obligated for the parking lot and walkover behind the existing seawall, that'd be 2.5 million TIF dollars spent on things we weren't told were in the TIF budget before the election, and aren't necessary for accessing the jetty. Is that where the money's all going, instead of for the things that were supposed to be funded by the TIF, including the South Side Park with its concrete walk along the length of the channel, as well as the bathhouse, the restrooms, and minimum of 140 parking spaces in a lot near the base of the jetty?

A beach walk

My husband and I are avid walkers and have enjoyed many a mile at the National Seashore. This past Sunday, April 2, we decided to walk the portion of the beach the City Council designated to close to auto traffic. We were delighted to see the whole stretch from Beach Access Road 4 to Bob Hall Pier, and beyond, being enjoyed by couples, families and groups.

The flow of traffic was close to the dunes, which are unsafe and damaging for anyone to play on, so as far as having children play in this area, this is just not so.

This stretch, if it gets final OK, will only be enjoyed by those fortunate enough to enjoy the exclusivity of a stay at a "resort."

Please, council, take this walk on a weekend and unless you are single, childless, grouchy or a couch potato, you will change your mind.

I don't understand how the city can use those funds for items not listed in the bond issue. That would be like the school board passing a bond election to build a new school but instead using the money to build a new administration building and no school. Also I have never seen a city pass an ordinance that specifically benefits one individual.
