Got the Zodiac motor broken in the last few weeks at the local lake and it was time for the maiden saltwater voyage. Loaded up and headed down. My brother in law would be along for this trip since I didn't want to solo trek my first time out in case something happened and we needed to row back to the launch. Picked him up from their place in Corpus and away we went. Made it back into Yarb Pass Friday evening. Up early-ish Saturday morning and away we went. Made it from Yarb Pass to Baffin, then ran back past Yarb and into the Landcut a mile or so. We did a ton of sightseeing but also managed some B Drum, a Ray (packed away for Sharkathon) and some Trout. 23.5 miles logged on Saturday according to the GPS. Bay test a success.
Out to the surf Saturday evening and new camp setup for offshore test Sunday morning. Sunday was up and cursing Swellinfo for not being the predicted wave height. Made a big breakfast in hopes that the swells would drop a tad as we ate and gave it a while since it was supposed to get better as the day went on. It did and we hit the water about 9:30. Triggers, Spades, Red Snapper, small Blacktips and 2 Ling, one lost at the boat, the other landed (mine was lost, made me curse since that would have been my first Ling). Bro in laws was just over 37" so we tossed in the cooler. Boat rode great offshore. 8 miles logged. Offshore test a success, and exceeded what I thought it was going to be like.
To the bro\sis in laws house for shower, dinner with my wife, mother in law and sister in law, then back to the in laws to offload all unnecessary gear. 9pm, we launched for some night time canal fishing. Managed a lot of Trout in the lights, with 6 being keeper size. We released all of them and called it a night about 3:30am this morning. 6 more miles logged. Slept for a few hours and now back in SA. Boat cleaned and motor flushed with freshwater and anxiously awaiting the next outing.
Almost 40 miles in 2 days, LOTS of fish, we kept 3. Baffin was dirty, Landcut was pretty clean looking, Offshore was amazing visibility. Little weed past the 1st gut. Had no issue trolling baits. 1st gut and wade gut were near impossible to fish up North, no idea about South. No long lines out this weekend. Spoke to the guys on the tool boat tied off to the Standpipe and the guys on the 2 boats at the Spinaker and they said they were there "to PA the well." Not sure what PA means since I'm not in that field, but guess that means they aren't there to tear down any of them. I asked specifically about tearing them down and they looked at me funny so, not this group anyway.
Was a busy\awesome weekend to say the least. No pics because my wife commandeered the camera to take picks of our niece (she's 4 moths old now).
**edit** On a side note, does anyone know anything about the Packery bridge being shut down Sunday night about 9:30pm and then again a few hours later about 3am? We launched from Packery Park and the one at 9pm had TONS of cops\EMS\etc on the bridge. Looked like they stopped traffic trying to head towards Port A. At 3am, it looks like it must have just happened as the first responders started showing up just as we got back. That one looked to be more off the bridge and towards the turn onto Zahn. Traffic started backing up as we packed up. Curiosity has me and I can't find anything on any accidents. Hope everyone is ok if they were accidents. Both looked pretty bad from the amount of vehicles that showed up.
See ya somewhere out there,
Sean

Cool report I've thought about getting a zodiac myself.
And P&A means plug and abandonment.
There shutting down the well and killing it and the pipeline out of production more than likely. If it has a riser going down the side of the standpipe that's the line goes to bottom and runs to a sub sea assembly.
They'll flush it with saltwater to clean it out called pigging a line.
Then they will cut a section out topside called a coupon and usually the divers will go in and cut out the tube turn and insert plumbers plugs. Imagine a boat drain plug the size of the pipe. Then they will jet down the pipeline and cut a 20-30ft section out of it and plug it. Then sand bag it to cover it up and wallah you have a P&A..
The well itself they usually come in and do a cement plug back job and kill the well. Fill a section or all of the zone or wellbore with cement.
I was a gulf diver for 4 years and now work in cement field services inland so I've done both. Lol.

Oh and as far as the rig. Dismantling it is what they call removing it.
And it'll be there a while of there just now plugging it.
Either remOve it after so many years or they get it declared as like a artificial habitat or something like that from what I've heard. Most go bye bye though. _________________ Hey man they ain't bitin!! Well "Grab a beer!" |
