The Perseids Meteor Shower will be most visible tonight and tomorrow night.

Sounds like a great time to be on the sand away from the city lights. _________________ "Money will buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail." - Kinky Friedman

Quoted directly from the site:
"For the best viewing experience, find an area unobstructed by a structure that is far away from city lights. Using optical devices such as binoculars or telescopes is not recommended, as your field of view will be greatly restricted, thus making the possibility of missing a "shooting star" more likely.
Once you have settled down at your observation spot, face half-way up toward the northeastern portion of the sky. Looking northeast, you will have the constellation of Perseus, the radiant of the Perseids shower, within your field of view. Not coincidentally, the Perseids meteor shower is named after the constellation Perseus for the reason that they appear to originate from the sparkling Greek /hero./
Looking directly up at the sky or into the radiant is not recommended since this is just the point in which they appear to come from. You are more likely to see a trail when looking slightly away from this point. Looking half-way up into the sky will lead to the best show in the house.
If you have a smart phone with a sky map app, you might try using that to better help find the Perseus constellation.
Good luck!
Let us know if you see any. _________________ "Money will buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail." - Kinky Friedman

Well I finally seen one for sure center of my vision. Not much else. I didn't have binos and was using my compass for direction.
Guess there just a little cloud cover or there lower in the sky and I can't see them. Not enough excitement right now to fight mosquitoes and staying up and wrk calling any minute. So off to bed for me. _________________ Hey man they ain't bitin!! Well "Grab a beer!" |

Walked outside at the house @ 0430 Sunday and saw the first one in less than a minute. Looked among the three brightest objects at the time: the moon, Venus, and Jupiter. Amazing that something the size of a grain of sand can make so much light. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

The wife and I were by Packery and counted 10 between 11pm and midnight. Was a beautiful night. _________________ Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says "Oh Crap, he's up!" |

Yeah think they were a little over optimistic on there count per hour. Lol
Watched for a little between 0030-0115 and maybe seen one I think ha.
But still a beautiful sight to look up and see all the stars and just stare into space. Literally. Makes ya think about how small we actually are and how wonderful gods creation is. _________________ Hey man they ain't bitin!! Well "Grab a beer!" |
