OK, guys, now I have another question. I've been hearing alot in here about people using a "slide" or questioning about using a slide at Bob Hall Pier. Can you tell me what they're talking about? I appreciate your answer about BTB and BHP. I don't mean to sound stupid, but asking questions is how I learn and someday I'll become smart. _________________ FishLady

Don't feel stupid! I had the same question so tried to search online but it seems like "slides" are different based on region. Plus the pics and explanations are so confusing. _________________ Empty vessels make the most noise |

im going to give it a try today for the first time. but ill try to describe it. involves two rods. one rod(anchor rod) has a surf weight on it and is casted out. the fighting rod has the leader and a clip that attaches to the anchor rod. you put your bait on the leader and slide it down into the water until it is just barely under the surface. _________________ Chris Gonzales |

Slide clip!
Slide diagram
Don't pay attention to the line sizes!
Just get good crane swivels 80-100lb class
44-56lb tooth proof wire!
Swivel to 3-4ft of wire then haywire on a 4 to 5/0 j hook
Haywire again through the j eye a 4-6in tail leader then haywire on a decent size treble and you have a leader. You don't need monstrousasity of a line lb that's exactly what I catch all mine on. _________________ Hey man they ain't bitin!! Well "Grab a beer!" |

All homemade! 3 ounce egg weight and 140lb class wire about 10-12" then dbl over. 2 crimps 2 beads, 1 snap swivel. Cut legs even. Put legs through top swivel eye and spread apart.
8-10 ounce spider weight.
I made a mold and poured all my egg and surf weights. _________________ Hey man they ain't bitin!! Well "Grab a beer!" |

Make the legs on the slide rig about 2" helps prevent bait from rapping line around legs. It's a mess.
Once you have a leader with a swivel on the end made up. Tie a heavy snap swivel to your main line. Connect snap swivel through eye of leader.
This gives you easy changing of leaders and better prevents twisting of leader and line. I always put the bottom eye of the snap swivel in my slide and leave the snap and leader swivel hanging down free to spin for bait movement.
Caught over 10 in last week. So ain't broke don't fix it!
Good luck hope all that helped _________________ Hey man they ain't bitin!! Well "Grab a beer!" |

Next couple weeks when I get back down Henry were gonna make a good instructional video. No bloopers this time. Lmao.!
And guys if that seems a mess don't be afraid to use a good size float on the same leader! One day that's all I caught kings on was a float. No hits on my slides that were 20ft away all day! Don't ask why idk. _________________ Hey man they ain't bitin!! Well "Grab a beer!" |

Thanks for all the info Bret! I was curious myself. I know He who shall not be mentioned explained this before in a previous thread but the step by step makes it easy to follow. Just a quick question though, how do you get the clip back after the fish frees itself from it short of reeling in your anchor line?
Tyler, do I feel a sticky coming on perhaps? |

Make plenty of slides! lol. Running two slides I keep bout ten made up.
Which I can make one in about 2 minutes. And I have two weeks on at work to prepare.
Hopefully on a good day like I had one day you have to reel up the anchor and recover them all.
And use good mono 20-25lb or 60-80lb braid on your anchor rod
I prefer braid. There's less stretch less sag in the line. Which helps set the hook better on a tough pulled slide rig and enough strength you won't snap or abrase your anchor line pullin it out of the sand losing all your slides _________________ Hey man they ain't bitin!! Well "Grab a beer!" |

you dont get it back till you ready to leave....you need to have a bunch of them....at the end of day they all come back when you bring in slide....unless some supple bum breaks your slide with his boat and you loose it all. _________________

Now, Bretmclendon12, how does one "haywire" something? Never heard that expression before... _________________ FishLady
