Yes, you need to register it as it now has a motor on it.

My dad has done has put a trolling motor on 2 of his 4 yaks, and loves them.

Thanks for the info.. The drifter i have is the older blue one.i mounted a two by four right behind the seat with 4 galvanized angle brackets and i also painted the two by four with marine paint. The two by four sticks out a little longer on the right side cause thats where i mounted the trolling motor. I bought a dual cycle marine battery at academy for 64 bucks and a battery case to sit it inside the front hatch. I also bought a 40 amp fuse and mounted it next to the battery.i drilled two 1/4 inch holes next to the trolling motor mount and fished my two wires to the battery. I used all stainless hardware and siliconed everything. The trolling motor worked great and i was impressed...

There used to be a dude in California who had a website with pics on this particular installation. I believe he was called "Silentman" but I am not sure. If you do a search you might find his website with his detailed plans, results, etc. Also....several posts with pics about this topic on Texas Kayak Fisherman, all the way from high $ BassYaks kits to the do-it-yourself installs.
When I had mine I had to use a permanent laundry marker for my Texas # as the store bought boat #'s are hard to get to stick on the plastic. I never did put my sticker on as it would not stick so I just carried it with me in a plastic case.....never got stopped but maybe I was just lucky!

There's a guy in Rockport that custom fabricates kits/motors for ANYTHING...I'll see if I can find his information and post it here.

There's also http://www.bassyaks.com

Hey Ryan....is that the older couple who used to make the SloMo kayaks over behind the Aransas gun shop in Fulton? I noticed that his shop now has a sign out front that mentions both kayaks and kayak motors?

If Bighead(Ryan) is thinking of the same mom and pop outfit I am their website has expired. If they are still running the shop their address is listed as: 904 W. Palmetto, Rockport.....physical location actually in Fulton so this might be mailing info.
Phone # given is: 361-727-1210
Shop is in Fulton located on a side street/alley right behind the Speedy Stop next to Broadway, fairly close to the Aransas Gun Shop.
Hopefully Ryan will correct me if this is off base. Their sign out front only says "Kayaks and electric motors".
