Has anyone ever fished the oso creek that runs across south Crosstown or the bridge going out past W.O.W? I've always been curios about fishing this area but not sure if it's even worth it. What can you expect to catch?

look further upstream. You have a landfill and one of the cities waste water collection sites. There are plenty of other spots before I would stop and fish there.
On another note I saw some guys dropping in a jon boat at the creek crossing on way out weber and they looked like they had a clue of what was in there....lol

My wife has always wanted me to dump the kayaks in there at that spot past the landfill. I couldn't see it but it would be cool to see what's over there I guess.

I never fished there but I did some fish sampling back in there in 2008 and even further upstream. It can get very shallow, and surprisingly when I collected there it was VERY salty, >45 ppt, which is more saline than normal sea water. The only fish we collected were sheepshead minnows, which can live through pretty much anything. No mullet or any other baitfish. There was hardly any vegetation on the bottom and the water was actually HOT. It conditions probably change a bit from year to year, season to season, but a very weird place, that Oso Creek.

Back about 15 years ago, I would fish over there and catch small redfish. This was when there was a little creek at the back of Sun Valley. That creek is now a ditch, I think. I have wanted to to try fishing the bigger part of the creek over behind Kings Crossing and the Lakes, to see what's over there. Are there still gators there? I know there used to be 5 to 10 years ago, but I think they were caught and either killed or relocated.

There are or was some big gar in the creek. I used to dove hunt right next to the dump and the creek and we saw them all the time. I know of someone who has targeted them and cauight them in the oso as well. Before anyone comments, yes we hunted dump doves.

Back in the 70's we used to target shoot and hunt ducks out there. Never saw any fish but there were lots of crabs. Wink

I have kayaked from the bridge at staples down to the crosstown crossing before. Its actually kinda cool back there. Lots of snakes and huge turtles. Not to mention a large variety of birds. We saw some huge splashes back in there from something in the water. They were big. Probably gar. We also caught a few undersized reds back there. Lots of mullet when i went also. I found it kind of relaxing back there. I want to go again. It has been a few years.

I have never personally fished that spot W.O.W but I know there IS gar still in there. About 2 years ago, i pulled over to see if this fellow was having any luck and he had a huge gar and told me he's pulled reds from there as well before. That day the water was clear and there were plenty of finger mullet jumping around. You could actually see 3-4ft gar slowly swimming on the opposite side of the creek bank. Pretty cool with their orange fin tips. I've always wanted to kayak the area where the creek starts (around the dam area). I think that would be a good spot. Anyone else kayaked that end of the creek?
