|
|
| Has anyone with the new Ford electronic system that uses the ABS system to stop wheel slippage taken their truck through the soft stuff on PINS yet? I am wondering how well it works. I have read that it works better than traditional limited slip. Anyone with some experience that can shed some light on it? |

Wow, almost three hundred views and no replies. Someone had got to have some experience with this, as it's standard equipment on all Ford 4x4 trucks for 2011&2012. Our it's just so good no one had had any trouble! |

| My brother has one. He said it works great, but it feels a little "funny" until you get used to it. We hit some soft patches that my Jeep usually floats right over, but the trucks seem to bog down some. His stayed right behind me all the way. |

| Thanks, I wouldn't expect it to float like a jeep. Good to hear the system works. I figured Ford knows what they are doing. |

an old trick used when one wheel spinns. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

| So here's my experience.. Just borrowed my roommates 2012 since my 4runner was in the shop. 4x4 works fantastic but he's right as far as soft sand goes. It bogs down slightly but works through the softsand creating deeper ruts. It has that parking brake feeling which worries me if you tend to use it multiple times on the beach. I never felt like I was going to be stuck, only hated making ruts because of people with lower clearance vehicles. |

That's a great attitude, and you should be commended for it! Just the opposite of the A holes who used to rut up the sides of the fish pass jetties and then charge people to pull them out!!! _________________ Dave

Thanks! Good to hear the technology works. Not sure about the parking brake trick? Don't know what that is.
My Durango had open diffs front and rear, and it was hard to slow down in the sand, except for deep ruts, where I would be pushing through the sand piles up between the tire ruts from taller trucks. With this new Ford, it shouldn't be a problem.
Had people ask if it has a lift. It hasn't, or there would be bigger tires under it!
Will be looking to get a slight lift on the truck to provide for wider tires to help the floatation equation. I know that I can also disengage the traction control system (which is what I believe accuates the brake system when in 4wd to limit slip) if it becomes a nuisance. |

on an open diff (non-posi) when one wheel loses traction, it will spin and the opposite wheel remains stationary.
a light application of the parking brake gives resistance to the spinning wheel and then allows the other wheel to turn.
this trick (?) got alot of ranchers and farmers out of mudholes.
most older 2wd pickups didnt have any type of limited-slip differentials.
another trick used on open diffs with a truck w/dead batt...
jack up one wheel... wrap a rope around around the raised wheel
put truck in 2nd gear and pull rope... like starting a lawnmower _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

CRMSN, did you turn off the traction control? I have scoured the interent for information and finally found this: https://fmcstage.dealerconnection.com/submissions/esourcebook/truck/2012/images/FSeries_Traction_Job_Aid.pdf
It states that you avoid that bogging down by turning off the traction control, so only the brake accuated limited wheel slip feature and was interested to see if you did or not. Apparently if the traction control is on, then it "bogs down" because the EMC cuts back the throttle to slow the wheels. |

| Interesting system, my old 2000 chevy Z71 has a locker in rear end. I have never been stuck on DRY sand before, I have sunk it playing around beside the causeway in Portland. Never taken it to the PINS though, im curious if I could make it down or not. I know one thing that locker makes a lot of noise when it starts working. |
