After seeing that most of you gents are packing heat when you're out fishing, I was wondering how many of you have a CHL or are just going by the Castle doctrine (as in protecting your boat/campsite/vehicle/etc)?
I never really considered carrying while out fishing but am definitely rethinking that after having read a few threads on here. |

I don't know many people who actually carry a gun while fishing. I have personally never (knock on wood) felt that I needed to be armed while fishing. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

I don't pack either but I normally don't fish where I would feel I needed protection. I thought about it on PINS but never did carry there either though some camping with us did. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I've felt mixed vibes. Sometimes it feels like all of us out there are all friends -- willing to help out, etc.
Other times I realize we're pretty vulnerable considering we're pretty far from civilization sometimes, often very occupied & not conscious of someone eyeing us & approaching unwelcome.
I wouldn't want to be helpless if someone tries assaulting me when I'm on a school of reds from shore and I've got my wife & daughters with me.
Didn't ever really consider that happening until some recent news made me a bit more conscious. |

As members of the human race we should all be willing to help another in time of need.
Realizing that while some are classified as humans but will not or cannot abide by the golden rule, it is my belief that we should be prepaired to defend ourselves and others around us, an example of not being prepaired to do this would be the Movie Theater incident in Colorado this morning, this creaton killed at least 14 that we know for sure at this time. If I were sitting in the theater when this scenario broke out, there might have been a little different outcome! (Perhaps!) |

You just don't know when or where something like this could happen.
Fishing
Shopping
Eating out
Driving down the road
You get my drift I am sure. |

| SaltyCuda, my thoughts exactly -- especially now that I have a family. Just completed the CHL course this past Saturday and applied for the license & sent in my supporting docs on Wednesday. |

Police. . Never got the CHL since dept policy gets a little weird on those.
Carry a pistol on me and a shotgun in the rod locker, ESP if I'm making an offshore or Baffin/landcut/Mansfield run.
As SaltyCuda says, it's just not for fishing. I carry everywhere and all the time.
Yes, it's been used.
Look at what just happened at a Batman movie. |

That is a sad case brother. That goon was allegedly wearing body armor. The only things I've got that'll whoop body armor are too big to carry concealed. I am with you and SaltyCuda...I carry everywhere unless there's a 30.06 sign or a 51% sign.
As for helping out...after watching the media uproar and crucifixion of Zimmerman, I honestly wonder if it's worth it to help out. Right now, I'm of the mindset that someone else's lack of preparation does not constitute an emergency on my part...but I also know, I wouldn't leave someone to die either...it's tough to think about...but if you're going to carry, you'd better think about it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

There are guys at ar15.com that are fabricating their own body armor using AR500 plates covered in home cut kevlar to 'de-spall' the fragments. These plates are stopping 7.62 NATO at a range of about 15 yards.
If you've got some ingenuity...you'd be surprised at what you can make.
