VIDEO..

headed over the bridge, and the laguna looked amazing..

-

got to Bob Hall and instantly wished i had gone BTB today, didn't get to since i was watching my daughter(gonna go tomorrow, hoping for a big Jack Cravelle for KW, to make 10 species for Kayak Wars)

-

saw two nice reds landed, this one had a 4inch remora on it(tried to get a pic of it, but it didn't turn out)

had to go to the beach to cast net some mullet..had a hard time getting anything descent on the T

D.Askew's nice king caught on slide line..
he got his personal best yesterday at 50+inches...(was told the kings hit pretty good yesterday evening..) took a descent video of him landing it, it was foul hooked, and i was keeping tabs on the kiddo so i may not have done to good on it..
gonna start a new post when it finishes with the video on YouTube..

i never set up my slide instead i tied a 1/0 owner gorilla J hook strait onto my 80pound braid and tried to hook one of the Tarpon(most were 30-60pounds) that were hanging out under the pier..i used 6-8inch mullet, ended up getting three mullet ripped off my hook, i got one of them hooked in the corner of the backside of the T, he jumped i was planning on brawling with him to keep him from going under the pier, but instead after just a few seconds he cut through my braid (sigh) took me two years to hook one from Bob Hall...
there was a neat video of it taken on a cellphone, however i don't think we will get to see it...next time i go i am only gonna focus on getting me my first TEXAS TARPON Smile

another nice red...

tons of mullet in the surf

-

car to car as far as i could see..

my and my kiddo sharing some ice cream, she did pretty good out on the pier, we stayed for kinda a long time, was having a hard time pulling myself away from the Tarpon, i saw up to 6 at one time hanging out under the T, and had 3 or 4 of them chasing my bait at the same time a few times..

let her get a little wet before going home..had to call it a day to get out of the sun..
till next time...He who shall not be mentioned out... Cool

two center consoles ran by the pier less than 100-200yards off the end...one of them hooked a shark rod and the other boat cut another shark rod off (cut off $200+ or braid and shark gear), the guy dropped his lines for them, if he hadn't they very easily could have been beheaded as they hit the braid at 30+mph..they flicked us off as we yelled for them to give us space..
There are lines run out almost a 1000yards off bob hall most of the time, do not run close to bob hall in your PB! its illegal and extremely dangerous for you..believe me the sharkys will remember your boat, and you could very possibly be made to pay for hundreds of dollars worth of gear(have heard of a $1400 dollar check being written to the sharkys so they wouldn't destroy the guys boat who cut them off when they found it parked at a local motel.. or you could even come to physical harm..i have heard story's...basically do not run near Bob hall in any vessel other than a non motorized kayak
a drunk surfer was arrested earlier trying to start fights on bob hall..
and two jet skis thought it would be cute to do 360's in front of the T 200yards out..use common sense and have some respect people...

where does the law give a distance for how close a boat can be to a pier?

as far as i know it is illegal to go within a 1000feet of the pier with any motorized vehicle..i have talked to Bill about it and apparently the kayak were illegal too, but they changed it so shark baits can be yakked out..
i will get with him next time i am on the pier, and give you his words..
the coast guard helicopter even showed up to try and get them out of there...

Wow. I cant believe someone would try to say you cant come within several hundred yards just because a sharker paddles his baits beyond the pier. Im thinking the legal distance is at least 100 yards. Now I dont fish that area by boat but if I did pass that area I would think 500 yards would be fair. Somebody tracks my boat down and damages it after that would lose more than that cut gear.

you could loose your head when you run into someones 200pound braid under extreme tension.....i don't shark fish so...
and yes if you spool somebody of 1500+yards of braid(at a dollar every30 feet you do the math) they will be more than upset with you, these things have happened before...this was a heads up and nothing more
not goin to argue with anyone about it..i will give you the law next time i visit the pier..want me to video the mans words?
not gonna let anyone ripple my pond thanks
the shark guys are not going to drop their lines anymore, if you run through there... good luck...

if I did pass that area I would think 500 yards would be fair
that would be outside of the 1000foot mark and legal...

look at the video the second boat is within 200yards..the first boat ran closer and faster almost got himself and his crew killed, he is lucky the guy dropped his lines letting him cut his gear off, it could have been very bad...i guarantee that 200pound braid is not going to give...

That information might be good to know for boaters and pier fishermen. I get the feeling though that if its less than 500 yards the sharkers will still think they expect to have more. It boils down to a respect thing just like boaters that burn shorelines behind waders. Reminds me of the days when my dad ran a sail line 300 -400 yards off the oso bay area near the base. On a few occasions boaters ran that area and my dad lost all his gear. He would run to the boat ramp and ask them if they would go try to retrieve the gear and on two seperate times that it happened they did go get it. Now obviously there were no laws or restrictions protecting the sail liners like the pier fishermans boundary but I believe that distance is for CASTABLE distances.

I agree a common sense distance should be adhered to from the pier. I don't think there is a law that gives a specific distance in texas though.

maybe there should be a law against running a nearly invisible line 1000 yards, anchored on both ends in a navigable waterway.

the lines are nearly invisible...i have spent a good amount of time in a kayak maneuvering around them..with slightly dirty glasses they are only possible to see within about 10-20yards, most of the lines enter the water less than 400yards from the pier...

i will get Bill's statement about it and share it regardless of what he says..

he called the coast guard today..

flicking off the pier as you cut off shark lines is a bad way to make friends Embarassed
